Simple stillness

Living my life feels hectic at times; I'm not complaining, I have a nice life and focus on owning it, being the driver rather than a passenger, but at times...yep, hectic.

It's been that way since...well, I guess for as long as I can remember and this year has been somewhat more of a whirlwind and it feels like I've not stopped to take a break (which I haven't) or to find very many moments in which I can recharge. I've done the typically-me thing of forging ahead no mattter what.

I found one this morning though - created one - a simple coffee at one of the cafes I like, and an hour or so to read a book on my Kindle.

I'm not sure how others feel about it, but a moment of simple stillness does wonders for the way I feel and sort of tips the balance back to a central point from which I can operate better, more efficiently and effectively. I'm not one of those pompous wankers who puts it down to good coffee, that's bullshit, although coffee was involved; simple stillness isn't reliant on external things, it's about placing distance between the every-day and oneself, finding stillness within the mind and body and allowing everything to melt away, or be held at bay, for a little while.

I do this in many different ways and it's about how I allow myself to react to or absorb external inputs - by this I mean I shut them out - and that always brings me the ability to function better.

Do you understand what I mean by "simple stillness" and what might that look like for you? Do you seek to find it or do you not recognise the benefits of putting a gap between your mental and emotional self and the world external to you?

Comment below if you'd like to.

A moment of peace usually happens when I work at home, normally with a little kid it's impossible, you are being called every second, so I enjoy sometimes being able to watch the green outside with some silence, and just stare there

I reckon it'd be pretty full-on with a little kid around. How often do you manage to find a little time for yourself, apart from sleeping?

When HE sleeps lol, that's the only moment for myself I have...

I feel sorry for you...and glad I don't have that issue.

I didn't expect to be that much time consuming, but when you make kids you know you are going to have less time, responsibility for my own choice

I know you take the responsibility seriously which is exactly what you should be doing. Many don't though.

Many delegate responsibilities to the other parent or directly to the smartphone...

A peaceful quite time for yourself, and enjoying the time the way you want to spend it.

It seemed appropriate and I think I'm better for it.

Moments are good. Yay for the reset :)

I had to put them in my calendar as initially I thought that I would just take moments whenever I had free time but stuff kept filling up the free time leaving me no time. So now I have hardly any free time but I do have art time XD

I hate calendars

Calendars can be annoying bastards but I feel that through putting something in there (I always check) it means it's more likely to happy. I even put notes in there for myself although not in my work one, just my personal calendar.

It really does which is why I have been forcing myself to use one. My brain just absolutely loathes them (probably because they're related to schedules which is the core of the loathing) which is one of many reasons why it was apparently literally impossible for me to "get organised" til my 40s (I'm still not organised).

What's also been helping is allowing myself to just feed my stationery addiction and getting the cute notebooks and pens XD

now I just need to remember to check the notebook, amusingly I can change any habits I developed in adulthood almost on a whim but anything that came from childhood has been something

You have a problem

You're just being you and over time people change and adapt as required. I don't think there's a right or wrong to it, there is just how it is I suppose. So...no problem at all, it's all how it's supposed to be.

My wife and I went camping this weekend and I spent most of the day on Saturday just sitting at the campsite and reading. It was quite nice!

Sounds bloody awesome!

Yeah!

In my case, that gap between my emotional state and my mental self is necessary. When I want that break and seek out that gap, I stop doing what I usually do because it tires me mentally, and I do things that relax me and give me peace of mind, such as watching sport, taking photographs and going for a walk, because carrying on doing the same thing simply tires you mentally, even if you’re just thinking about it… Have a lovely Sunday. Best wishes and regards

Walking is a great way to find a moment to oneself, releases all sorts of things in the mind and body. I do the same.

Have a good rest of the weekend.

I'm usually the first one up at home. I make breakfast for everyone. I love that moment when everyone is asleep and the little world around me is quiet. It's the perfect time to think, create, and organize my ideas.

The early .opening is a good time to take a self-moment. Always seems quite peaceful indeed.

I use that same ritual for me sometimes; coffee, by myself, ideally facing the sea. That and a hiking trail in nature: instant reset! Have a nice weekend!

I reckon it's a popular option and that's probably because it works.

Happy Sunday.

You sound like you have such a peaceful state of mind❤️. Some people would look for something to make it busy. Enjoy the peace!

Peace is was, and is being, enjoyed. 😊
