If I'd had nothing planned I'd have been happy - weekends are like that for me - I like them no matter what I'm doing...well, except doing my job because working on the weekend sucks. Anyway, this weekend I didn't have nothing planned, I had something planned and have enjoyed doing it.
Friday night work function
Working hard needs a counterbalance and playing hard fits that requirement. The company I work with have a focus on both and Friday night was one of the occasions where the playing hard element was deployed because we all (most of us) went to throw some axes. That's right y'all, fucken axe throwing.
We went to a place called Maniax where one engages in the legit artform that is axe throwing, a place where one can express their sensitive side, get in touch with one's inner feelings and emotions...well, none of that really...it's a place where one gets to hurl fucken axes, eat pizza, drink legit adult beverages (after all the axe throwing is over) and socialise with one's friends and, in my case, colleagues.
I'm not going to explain much about it, you can follow the link above if you like, although I will say that it was a lot of fun...and that I ended the night in second position after a hard-fought tournament against my colleagues of which there were thirty two. It came down to one single and final throw and unfortunately mine was about six inches away from beating out my colleague; I was ok with it (not really, I like to win) and the fun factor outweighed the glory that comes through winning...(not really, I like to win). Seriously though, it was a lot of fucken fun.
Saturday getting over the work function
I woke up Saturday morning with the intention of getting onto my rowing machine and rowing a few kilometres...but my shoulders and back felt somewhat sore from all that axe throwing...I threw around one hundred times and a lot of force goes into it. Anyway, no rowing machine...but a really cool bacon and egg breakfast, a little housework, couch time to watch a movie called The Light Between Oceans, one of my favourite movies and then...just a little bit of work in the afternoon. I know, fucken work!
I made dinner on Saturday night, a legit meal of chicken schnitzel and roast vegetables which was followed by some cheesecake, low sugar of course.
The evening was episodes of House of Cards season five and yep...coffee and snacks.
Sunday markets
I was up early Sunday (today) and rowed almost five kilometres of interval rowing, fast, slower, fast, slower, slower because I was fucken tired, fast again and slower, then fast...then stop.
A shower happened, yoghurt and low-carb granola for breakfast then I was out the door to the farmers market with my girl for some browsing and shopping and to meet a couple friends for a social gathering at the market. We hung around until lunch time and then I came home with my stuff, fresh produce and lavender scones (legit) and other yummy stuff, and spent the afternoon writing, reading and having a snooze...Shh, tell no one.
We will make dinner together tonight using some of the stuff we bought at the farmers market, a nice simple meal of cold cuts, cheese, olives, carrot and celery sticks, humus dip and stuff like that...sort of like an antipasto/grazing platter thing. Quite legit indeed. More episodes of House of Cards will follow and later bed then...none of your business. That was my weekend in a nutshell, a pretty good one I think, and i feel content rolling into Monday that I spent the time well. What have you been doing this weekend? Lol...
Lol man, I missed this one. I love the whole axe thing. I did it near Christmas in Glasgow. It was great fun. I came 4th against done really stiff competition. My defense was that some of the buggers in my work head been a few times!
It's pretty good fun isn't it? I was telling some fri new about it and have since made a time to do it again but with just the four of us. I'm looking forward to it. I've heard it's a pretty popular thing around the place and in other countries and I know why, it's fun!
Yeah man, it's awesome. So good and easier than you first think. You assume you need some major skill and strength which doesn't go amiss but you can do alright almost from the get go.
I am trying to marshal some mates to do it but so far it has been like herding cats!
I'll do a proper post next time I go with photos and all, it was hard to do in the larger group...and I was focused on slaying anyway.
Get them mates together and if one of them doesn't want to go, drag him there anyway and put him up as the target. What could go wrong?
You gotta focus on the slaying!!
Nothing wrong with that idea, I am seeing one of them on Friday. Might just buy an axe and start convincing him in person 🤣🤣
Cleave his cranium in twain...that'll convince him to go axe throwing...once he duct tapes it back together. 😉
That's the way to do it!! 😀😀
My wife and I went to see a concert on Friday night at a local theater. The main attraction was blues legend Buddy Guy. Then on Saturday we did some cleaning before heading to the hospital to see our friend. We then had lunch with his wife. After that, we went to visit my mother in father in law because they were babysitting our little niece and nephews. Later that night, the same friend we had lunch with came over for a few drinks, then we watched some TV and went to bed. Today was church for me and then we will just relax and prepare for "opening day" tomorrow.
That seems like a reasonable weekend, enjoyable too. Hopefully all goes well for opening day and your weekend ends well.
Thanks, I hope so too. It usually gets pretty crazy the first week with all the teachers officially back.
You'll probably have plenty to do.
I see you copped a downvote by that mentally disturbed character called amirl who downvotes all my stuff and sometimes downvotes people who comment to me and whom I upvote. No worries, I upvoted your comment again with a bigger percentage.
Oh, thanks. I'm not too worried about it. I get downvotes from time to time and it's all part of the platform I guess!
Ok, I'll not bother next time.
Sorry, of course I appreciate it. It's just interesting because some people get really bent out of shape about down votes. I just see it as part of the platform even though it doesn't make some of the people less of a weenie for doing it.
The wife and I enjoyed the morning on the patio with coffee and flowers. Then cleaned house the rest of the morning. My youngest son came over for a visit and we spent the afternoon watching a movie called the Bikeriders. He left and the wife and I then started watching some love story Netflix series I didn't pay much attention to. After that it was dinner, which was some take out Mexican food. After dinner I went to bed early, while she stayed up.
Today I plan to clean up and straighten out one of the rooms in the basement. But most of all spend some more time with the wife drinking coffee, looking at our flowers and whatever else she wants to do.
That sounds like a legit weekend indeed, some relaxation and a little work as well; a good balance. I've heard of that movie (Tom Hardy right?) I have planned to watch it and hope to do so next weekend.
Enjoy today!
Yeah Tom Hardy. You have a good one too.
Axe throwing, fucking legit for sure 👍
It was man, a great time. I'm going again with some friends at the end of September. 😬
Just entered Prince William Sound and have glaciers as far as the eye can see, all to ourselves since this season, all fishing is prohibited due to the low number of salmon in the region. Looks like your company is treating you well. Enjoy your Monday.

Appreciate it.
I've heard it's pretty spectacular, certainly looks that way on the documentaries I've seen...I hope to find out myself one day. Sad about the salmon numbers, overfishing is a thing around the world though I guess, humans tend to take more than they need.
Enjoy.
Hi galen, my exposition is going to be very brief, after a long “weekend”, this weekend I am spending it catching up on pending things, nothing interesting. About the “long weekend”, as the weather in Stockholm was a bit horrible, I went down to Malmo, coinciding with the Festival they do there every year. I also drank adult beverages.... and shared time with some good friends.
By the way, I found your weekend very entertaining.
Very nice fruit picture
Carrots are vegetables.
It's good to have busy and carefree weekends but also important to catch up on things that have been left undone.
This weekend for me has been very enjoyable and there's a little to go, but not enough. It's Sunday night and we'll be settling down on the couch to watch some episodes shortly.
I hope the rest of Sunday is good for you.
Thanks so much Galen, have a great end of the day, and a great start of the week.
I love companies that take their workers out, it helps in relieving stress and creates bond and understanding between departments.
It's good for interteam relationships and overall culture too.
Weekend went well actually, attended the chieftaincy title ceremony of my friend's father. Thought it was going to be one boring session but had lots of fun instead.
Fun is a good thing to have on the weekend, well done.
What became very clear to me is .... that you like to win hahahahahaha
I followed the link, it looks super fun... I was wondering about my aim, if it would be good.... and the pizzas look great, although beers.... no no hahahahaha
Saturday.... too bad you had to work, but the rest made up for the day, especially the food!
What's wrong with the siesta... nothing! hahaha
My weekend was quiet, I dedicated myself to shopping, rearranging the pantry, you know, controlling dates and so on. Things around the house. I bought a salt lamp that I love for the bedroom, it looked fantastic. Worked for a long time yesterday and helped a friend with his computer that broke down. And then out!
Today, in about two hours I'm going to the fair, I'm looking forward to seeing what else there is that I haven't seen before! Especially on the artistic side.
It's been a great weekend!
PS: I wanted to put siesta in small and I didn't know how.😂
Yeah, I like to win...I don't see the point in aiming any lower than a win, first place or ultimate success. Of course, I don't always win and I have usually learned a lot on those occasions...which helps me seek the win next time.
It seems you had an exciting weekend of rearranging the pantry! After all that work in the pantry you deserve a snooze.
It seems not, but it takes time to see dates, my pantry is in a high place!
If I deserve a long nap hahaha if possible hahaha
Well, win next time, no second places allowed, do it!💪

Although the weekend seems tired some but I believe you enjoyed every bit of it
I did indeed.
That sounds like a perfect weekend to me, except maybe you should have had that snooze - shh.
The film sounds interesting, certainly like a few tears could be shed watching it.
I loved going to open-air markets back in Germany and then cooking something delish with all the goodies. Supposedly, there's markets like that here as well but I haven't really explored them (yet). In Germany I could walk to it or take the bicycle, that was nice.
It was a good weekend even without the snooze. ;)
It's a great film (the book is better) starting one of my favourite actors (Alicia Vikander) and well with a watvh, I've seen it a few times.
The market was good, so much great fresh produce and heaps of bread and baked goods, gourmet and stuff one doesn't find in everyday supermarkets. It's a nice vibe too. I've been to similar around the world and while different they all seem to have that same happy vibe.
That seems like a nice way to spend some time indeed. Nice work in sharing with your friends too.
