My most memorable moment from 2021 was on the evening of April 28th. It was when my toddler started walking right after her second birthday. We'd been working with our physical therapist for almost a year at that point. We were meeting on a weekly basis and practicing different exercises, but Gabby always seemed behind on her motor milestones. I was constantly stressed and frustrated because of the judgment I would receive from the pediatrician we saw at the time (we have a new one now and she's much nicer). It was also really tough doing physical therapy via Zoom meetings during Covid. Luckily, our physical therapist had a positive and encouraging attitude, which helped keep me going.

Gabby's two year check-up was approaching on the morning of April 29th, and I was growing increasingly stressed as the day approached, since she still wasn't walking. I was imagining all the judgmental scenarios at the pediatricians office in my head.

During the day on April 28th, we were sitting on the porch and Gabby was standing up, holding herself up on a table. She suddenly let go, hands free, and took a step, grabbing onto a chair that was close by. It was the longest I'd seen her go hands-free without holding onto something while walking.

This photo was taken with my iPhone 8, I recently got an upgrade to iPhone 13 which has a much better quality camera. Better photos to come!

Later, towards the evening, we were in the upstairs bedroom and she was walking alongside the bed while holding on. Suddenly, she was taking steps alongside the bed without holding on. This was a first! A little while later, she started taking steps by herself toward her play tent. I was in complete awe. I couldn't believe it. She started walking the. evening. before. her two year check-up.

This is a screen shot of video footage... sorry about the quality.

The next day, we saw the new pediatrician, who turned out to be super friendly and non-judgmental. A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. We're now working on communication skills with a speech pathologist and have seen a lot of progress. We're looking forward to more progress for 2022.

Happy New Year Everyone!
