I hope you enjoy reading this story as much as I have enjoyed remembering and writing it.

Since I was a child, I always enjoyed the December holidays with my family. It was the time when we got together to cook hallacas, listen to Christmas music and enjoy the company of our loved ones. But what I remember and long for the most from those days were the moments when we played endlessly with my cousins, while my grandmother and my aunts cooked and drank wine.

The smell of spices and freshly cooked food filled the house. I could hear my family's laughter and conversations as me and my cousins hid anywhere we could to play hide and seek ball. Meanwhile, my aunts and grandmother cooked the delicious hallacas, sharing stories and laughs as they made the dough, cut the banana leaves, and filled the hallacas with the stew of meat, chicken, pork, and olives.

As the night wore on, the house would fill with Christmas music and the sound of wine glasses being filled and emptied. Meanwhile, my cousins and I continue to play and laugh, our faces flushed with effort and fun.

And although it has been a long time since those December parties, I still remember that feeling of joy and love that was in the air. It makes me happy to think about those moments of my childhood and the love that my family shared at those parties.

I do not keep photographs of those years, I imagine that we cared little about taking photos, thinking that those days would never end.
