A different kind of weekend: Escaping to Barcelona - Spain

I am one of those who think that in every city we visit we will live totally different experiences from another time already visited or simply different from the experience of another person. For my part every trip I live it in different ways, it all depends on the purpose of this, vacation, visit a friend, work or a weekend getaway to get away from the monotony of your city.

This getaway to Barcelona was not planned at all, I live in the city of Zaragoza and one Friday at the end of work I was quite overwhelmed with all the responsibility of the week and felt I needed an escape to disconnect, and I said to myself: "Raul let's go to Barcelona on Saturday, it is a city that you love to travel and we are at 1 hour and fifteen minutes by train and the cost is 18 Euros round trip, so not bad: Raul let's go to Barcelona on Saturday, it is a city that you love to travel and we are 1 hour and fifteen minutes by train and a round trip cost of 18 Euros, so not bad, we located tickets, a couple of messages to a friend to ensure having a place to sleep, put together a small backpack and ready, Saturday at 08:00 am and we were at the train station with that adventurous spirit that characterizes me and much larger than the size of my backpack.

I have not been fortunate enough to live in this city, but the times I have visited it there is something about it that makes me feel part of its environment, I would not know how to explain it, but it is one of the cities that makes me feel very comfortable and despite being quite large I have a great facility to move in it.

Arrived very early at about 9:20 am and arriving at the station at the exit I stop to look a little subway map to decide how to start my route, without thinking much I see the citadel park and take the subway to take me there, I find this park very interesting is a mixture of nature, architecture and also that you find a lot of people with very different cultural mixes and if you pay attention and look around you could hear more than 5 languages. I spend part of the morning taking a long walk and enjoy its squares, fountains, architectural works and on one side of the park we can find the triumphal arch which is always exciting to see.

Then I decide to go to Montjuic Park is a place that I love to visit because from this place I can see extraordinary views of the city, besides being a huge place to walk and find a diversity of cultural leisure very enjoyable. Leaving the subway station at square España, I start walking in a straight line heading north and I see the imposing National Museum of Catalonia, as I enter the huge square I find its long stairs that takes me to the top of the park, passing through several fountains and escalators that when I turn around I see beautiful views of this city. Once at the top I sit to admire the scenery and take the time to rest, drink water and eat a snack to continue the tour.

Walking about 25 minutes to the back of the park there is a place that I love and is that from here you can have the most beautiful views that this city could give me, the viewpoint of Montjuic Castle, here we find a very imposing fortress that once functioned as a center of military operations of the city and today is a castle for sightseeing tours, however on the sides of it there is a small road that to enter I would find the wonderful views of the Mediterranean Sea and is that being there relaxes me more than anything.

Approaching lunch time, I decide to go down to the historic center to get something to eat (photos that I owe you) and after that I go to visit a mural that I had always wanted to see, but because of the speed of my visits I had not been able to go through there and the time has come to observe in first line the wall of the kiss, although it is a little hidden the GPS is very useful at this time. This mural was created with a number of photographs of many couples that captured in different ways on the wall in the distance is shaped like lips kissing and its motto is "The world is born in every kiss", the truth is that seeing from afar is very beautiful, but being closer and seeing the details of each mini-photography leaves you speechless.

Very close to this place is the gothic quarter with lots of interesting architecture, lots of Gaudi influence everywhere with its iconic modernist bridge, plus its beautiful cathedral that steals the eyes of any atheist.

I continue all afternoon, walking through different streets, getting lost in the amount of architectural and cultural mixtures of this city, entering the night I find the Gloríes Tower one of the most important skyscrapers of the city and with an architecture a little eloquent and by the locals has a lot of different names to what was wanted, and you will be imagining some ideas.

Finishing the day and with the night behind me, I found on the internet that the promenade of the city was visiting a fair, which has a Ferris wheel as the main attraction, I take the subway again (Blessed be in this big city) and I find the most beautiful images with which I could close this Saturday of unplanned adventures and that has caused me a great satisfaction to decide to do it without having much to think and plan. With this first post I make my debut in this community and I hope to have weekend getaways that will allow me to share more with you.
