Dogs are great, though I am no longer a fan of big dogs, since they have to be inside here. I grew up with large dogs though.

My Lota was a beagle. So maybe another beagle...But german shepherds and australian shepherds are also beautiful. The problem is that few times I had to carry Lota to the vet she was already heavy. So I don't think that I could carry a german/australian shepherd. I don't drive a car and you can't always rely on someone else to drive us there we need to go.
