For a family Saturday experience, we did something a bit different, and this was a new experience for me also. There is a "pet fair" going on here and they had pet shows, with judging, as well as agility and petting.
The first thing I noticed when going in was the crowd. We got there at the start of the event because in the schedule the dachshunds (sausage dogs) were right at the start, and that is pretty much all we are interested in patting. However, there was a "bit of a line" just to park, as these things are popular!
But, the crowd itself was predominantly of a certain kind of people. I am not sure what that kind of people are, but they weren't the kind that I normally would spend my time with. I don't even know how to describe it but when I mentioned to my wife that there was "something" she said, it has always been this way.
I think perhaps a precursor group to "crazy cat lady" might sum it up.
It wasn't only cats and dogs either. For instance, there were "crazy hedgehog lady" groups also.
Her shirt reads;
Finnish Hedgehog Association"
And this being Finland where they have a government for everything, I bet there is a hedgehog chairman, vice chairman, secretary, board....
hahahha...
I just went to their website.
I forgot the treasurer, head of IT, growth manager and of course, the hedgehog registry officer.
There were other animals too, like gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets, snakes, spiders...
They also had rats and rat agility. I don't know if you have ever seen this, but they have some wooden obstacles on a large table and the rat owner pushes and drags their rat racer through the course, whilst it is being timed. Once it finishes, the rat owner picks the little fella up and gives it a lot of hugs and kisses, before putting it into a box and drawing our their next racer to tackle the course.
I have a feeling that the IQ might be tested against their owners.
Anyways...
There were a lot of bunnies there too of various breeds and some of them were keen for a pat. They seemed to really enjoy the attention and pats and everyone I saw treated them with a lot of care. Like all the animals here.
One of the things in Finland is that for the most part, pets are very well looked after because they have to be kept inside, since the winters are so extremely cold. There are no "strays" though there are a few cats that make a living through the winter, but not many. Dogs are also well trained here for the most part, or at least, have been socialized so they are normally okay around other dogs.
There was also "Bunny Agility" which was as expected... a little less controlled than the dogs and, a whole lot cuter. And again, they really seemed to be enjoying the jumping and even when they weren't competing, were playing around the hurdles.

That'll do Bunny. That'll do.
The crowds swelled while we were there and after about three hours and an ice cream, we were done and decided to go into the city for a bit of lunch and then home for a nap.
Weekend naps are the best.
My family (2 out of 3) have some puppy fever, so this didn't really help matters, however I would like to hold off getting another dog until Smallsteps is able to take more care of it. At the moment, she isn't even able to walk herself to school alone, but that is coming. In a few years and hopefully after a holiday or two travelling, I think I would be ready again.
Luckily though, we do get to dogsit and next weekend we have a scheduled dachshund puppy coming to stay with us again. He is only about eight months old and is a bit of a cutie pie, so he can have naps with me too!
Are you a "crazy pet person" ?
What is your pet of choice?

Animals have innate abilities that they have inherited from generation to generation for their survival. The human skills taught to animals are just that, they repeat and repeat them in order to earn the food and affection of their master.
I have wondered why human beings are not taught skills and repeat them like circus animals, they would produce profit, food, and shelter…
I leave you with an interesting hen that has travelled the world more than I have, just for the simple fact of playing a small piano, the anthem of the United States, they call her The Patriotic Hen.
Aren't we taught this way? This is pretty much the approach to schooling - repetition. Repetition is really the only way to mastery. There are some master TV watchers!
I wonder if that hen can play another song? :D
Hey, there's the incongruity. As I read it, it took the hen's owner 12 months to teach her the tune, the hen died three years later. The owner amassed money from it by travelling the world carrying the show.
Repetition doesn't make a jazz player.
Miles Davis
I am not sure if Davis ever played the same note twice!"
Well damn those rats might be smarter than me...
I am a dog person. But I like most animals...
except humans.Dogs are great, though I am no longer a fan of big dogs, since they have to be inside here. I grew up with large dogs though.
What kind of dog would you get if you could have any?
My Lota was a beagle. So maybe another beagle...But german shepherds and australian shepherds are also beautiful. The problem is that few times I had to carry Lota to the vet she was already heavy. So I don't think that I could carry a german/australian shepherd. I don't drive a car and you can't always rely on someone else to drive us there we need to go.
I can't help but think of the extremely funny mockumentary 'Best In Show', making fun of American dog contests/ shows.
It's created by the creative brains of the people behind 'This is Spinal Tap' and if you haven't already seen it , I highly recommend this hilarious film from the year 2000.
I never saw This is Spinal Tap, but I heard it was decent! I should check some of the mockumentaries out - though I don't watch that much TV and I wonder if it is worth my time :)
They are, in my opinion, worth your time but we all have a differen sense of humor, of course ;^)
Are they terrible movies with a lot of black vomedy and cynicism?
That is my humour. :)
I suggest seeking out the trailers ;^)
I also love to have pet's 😁 but i prefer to have a pet cat as i afraid from dogs 🤣 but those click's of bunny in your post are amazing and funny too 😁
I was surprised how many people have pet rabbits here. One of my friends had one too and it lived for something like 12 years!
Here also people love to have pet rabbit 🐰
Hi bro! What a weekend you had over there. I love that this is taking place, I'm not sure if here in Venezuela there are events like this and maybe I miss them, but what I do know is that you wouldn't see the variety of animals that there are there in your area.
I'm definitely team "Cat Crazy Lady" hahaha, but not in an unhealthy way like what you've described above. I'm pretty sure I've only ever touched rabbits, dogs and cats, maybe the occasional rodent, but I don't dare much to pet any animals, especially snakes, though I am somewhat curious (I'd have to do it at an event like this)...
I feel like that weekend staying with the dachshund puppy will be very special and hopefully part of that preparation for expanding the family later on. Happy weekend, loved your post!.
Aren't there just snakes around in the jungles in Venezuela? Perhaps you can just go exploring and find one! ;D
I often wonder what it is like in different countries for pets. I am pretty sure that in some places, they aren't cared for as much as they are here, whilst in others, they might be better cared for.
Hahahaha, there must be a lot of snakes around here, but I wouldn't be able to touch them without supervision. Petting a hedgehog also attracts my attention, I think that would be pleasant for me. I'm sure there's protection for animals here, but I don't think they do these events where you can get that close. Thanks for the feedback bro 🫂
My pet of choice is anything my partner will take care of without me having to share any of the responsibilities... oh wait, that pet doesn't exist?! Then NONE of them, tbh!
I guess I would defer to cats over dogs based on that whole self-reliance thing, but something about the weekly snake feedings always excited me too.
I like the feel of snakes, but not sure if I would enjoy a pet one. Dogs (smallish ones) are great. I wouldn't want another large dog though.
I was talked into a 2,5 kg Yorkshire Terrier by my first wife and she was a good girl named "Martini." She was fine, barked a lot bigger than she was, and her most redeeming quality was how much she liked to lick between my toes after I got off work. She is now 16 and still lives with mom.
It was a very quality weekend nap after being outside for a worthwhile activity. A very valuable weekend activity for @Smallsteps, of course, if the cute girl is there too.
There are many things a family should do on their weekends to spend quality time together, especially if the parents are busy with work during the week.
In this post, you have shown an example to emulate that will encourage children to learn to be responsible when it comes to caring for their own pets.
Smallsteps will surely be very happy with her dachshund puppy.
Have a nice weekend.
Do you have a pet?
Yes I do, I have an aquarium with several small fish in it. I've posted it here a few days ago

The pets look very cute. I like pet cats the most. However, such pets as spiders and mice seem a bit strange.
I don't get the attraction of having a spider as a pet at all. Though, I am arachnophobic.
Any animal is cool for me, apart from snakes and scorpions😅
Pet scorpion!! I have never seen a scorpion in real life. The world is full of weird animals and weird people who love them.
I know that crazy cat ladies. They care their cat and spend money much more than they would do for their kids. I like petting animals as well, however I am against replacing them with a human, particualrly a son or a daughter.

That pet fair was awesome. When I usually hear of pet fairs, I usually just think of dog shows, and people can also bring their other pets like cats. There can be a lot of pet stores/merchandise, and a few adoption booths. But as I was reading more of your post I was surprised. There are a lot more animals present than I anticipated. Hedgehogs, Gerbils, Hamsters, Ferrets, etc. I would have wanted to pet a hedgehog, since they're so uncommon.
The rat and bunny agility are very intriguing and I would have loved to watch them. This feels a little like a petting zoo, where you can interact with a lot of the animals.
Is the final picture an Alpaca? I haven't seen one in person. That would have been really nice to see as well. Thank you for sharing this fun post.
My favourite pet is cats.
It's good that in Finland they take such good care of animals. In Venezuela it is very sad to see so many stray cats and dogs struggling to survive.
There are many types of pets that show us! I think the most important thing is to create the right conditions for them to have a good quality of life.
