Greetings, amazing hivers.
I want to thank the administration of this great community @weekend experiences for this insightful topic and to everyone who will be participating in this contest because it takes courage to share one's failure story...
For this week's contest, I chose to go for the first topic which is:
• Do you fear failing or see each failure as an opportunity adjust, learn and begin again with a better chance of success? Explain with examples.
It doesn’t matter how many times you fail but what matters is your courage to rise when you fail.
I have always been afraid of failure especially coming from a family where my dad has high expectations for me as his child. I never wanted to disappoint my dad or fall his hand, however, the fear of failure started when I did not see it coming…let me explain further with my experiences.
As a young girl, I am very intelligent but the first time failure slapped me in the face was during my university days. I spent the whole night studying and I was surprised to see an F- fail in my results.
From my findings, I got to know that some lecturers are not interested in how well you write but how much of a pay you give to them- that is sorting a course before you can pass it.
My first time experiencing failure in my academics, and I was weak. It got a toll on me, my self-esteem had reduced. I was forced to believe that hard work no longer pays.
The thought of going back to sit with my juniors to write the course that was below my level, most times when I was about to take up my pen to attempt the examination questions, I found myself fidgeting and after a few weeks when I heard the results were out, my heart raced fast as though I was being pursued by a masquerade. I refused to check my results myself, unless a course mate or friend of mine told me themselves.
Over time, I see failure as an opportunity to adjust, learn and begin again with a better chance of success.
For instance, I had attributed my failure to my lecturer (which in psychology is known as external attribution) but when I rewrote the course and found out that I had passed without sorting, I realized that I learned better, I studied better, I did things differently in other to get better and best results.
Thank you for reading. I hope my story inspires you.
