Weekly Update: Rentals, Feedback!

in PRAETORIA7 hours ago

Welcome back everyone,

This week’s release is all about refining rentals! I’ve rolled out a new rental feature, and I’ve also taken on board some great feedback from fellow players to make things even smoother.

Now, heads up, this new rental feature is still experimental! I’m using a service account with limited resources, so we’ll need to keep an eye on how those resource credits hold up over time and how the system behaves under heavier usage. i might as for some HP delegation if i notice when the RC (Resource Credits are not covering current usage)

The big reason behind this shift is to save everyone from those endless Keychain pop-ups.
If you’ve got a large land setup, renting gets repetitive very quickly. Before this change, every rent batch required another active-key confirmation from the Keychain extension.

Now, you only authorize once. After that, the backend handles the rental operations for you automatically.

Just a note though, this only covers rentals. For actual land operations, Splinterlands currently does not support delegated actions, so those still require confirmations through Keychain.

That said, if you acknowledge the site for posting operations and choose the “do not ask again” option inside Keychain, most of those posting pop-ups will disappear as well, making the whole experience much smoother.

Besides the rental changes, I also implemented several improvements directly based on community feedback over the last few days. So let’s dive into everything that changed!

💬 Ideas and feature requests are always welcome. No promises but I will take a look and try my best.

Rental Authority System

This is probably the biggest change of the week.

Renting is now fully server-side. Instead of every user signing every single rent operation manually, the system now uses a dedicated land service account that performs the rental transactions on behalf of authorized players.

To make this work safely, Splinterlands provides a Rental Authority system through account security permissions.

Once you authorize the service account, the site can handle rental operations automatically for you.

This means:

  • No more active-key popups for every rent batch
  • Much smoother large-scale land management
  • Easier automation
  • Cleaner workflows for players managing many plots

The authorization itself is handled directly from the Land Manager backend through the new Rental Authority.

The card automatically shows:

  • Not configured
  • Not granted
  • Granted

You can also directly grant or revoke permissions through Keychain.

One important thing I specifically handled carefully is preserving existing authorities. So if you already authorized services like PeakMonsters, those remain untouched when granting this authority.

Dry Runs and Safety Checks

One thing I still consider extremely important is transparency.
That’s why Dry Run functionality remains a major part of the system.
Before actually performing rentals, you can still preview what the system intends to do.

Additionally, rental actions are now disabled until:

  • The service account is configured
  • The user granted rental authority

This prevents confusing situations where users accidentally try features that are not fully configured yet.

Stake DEC Logging

Another addition this week is automated DEC staking logging.

A new land_stake_dec_log table now tracks:

  • Successful staking
  • Failed staking attempts
  • Region-based staking activity
  • Transaction IDs
  • Error messages

The main reason for this is auditing and debugging.

When automation touches funds or staking operations, I want proper visibility into what happened and why. This should also make future troubleshooting significantly easier if issues arise.

Minimum Foil Rentals

This was directly requested through community feedback and is now implemented 👍

You can now configure a minimum foil level for rentals.

This gives players a bit more control over worker quality and DEC efficiency.

At the moment, the system still only rents max-level cards. I’m still thinking about how level-based rentals should work in a clean and understandable way since “Level 4” means something very different depending on rarity.

But the feedback absolutely makes sense and I’ll keep exploring improvements there.

Community Feedback Improvements

A big part of this week was simply listening to player feedback and implementing improvements quickly.

Login label clarification

One player mentioned the login button on the Land Manager page was slightly unclear.

That was immediately adjusted 👍

Better DEC staking visibility

The system already warned when you lacked enough staked DEC, but now you can directly stake DEC from the interface itself.

Rental cost overview

Another really good suggestion was showing rental costs directly in the earnings overview.

That has now been added.

The system now shows:

  • Rental expenses per day
  • Rental expenses total
  • Where the rentals are placed (which plot)

And it also works for rentals done outside my site.

The layout will probably still evolve a bit, but the functionality is already there.

Minimum foil option

And finally, the minimum foil option requested by players is now live.

Closing Thoughts

Overall, this week was less about flashy front-end additions and more about improving workflows, automation, usability, and preparing the system for larger scale usage.

The rental authority system especially should make land management significantly smoother for bigger accounts.

That said, this is still experimental territory.

I’ll be monitoring:

  • Resource credit usage
  • Service account performance
  • Rental reliability
  • User feedback
  • Edge cases

And as always, feedback is extremely valuable. Many of the improvements this week came directly from player suggestions only days earlier.

So keep it coming 🙌

That’s all for this week.

See you on your land journey or on the battlefield 😄
