Doctor what did you just say? Bayo asked the doctor with a cracking voice and trembling lips.
Well Mr Bayo, doctor Timi replied in a calm manner while slowly shifting his gaze directly to Bayo's direction, from the test result which I have right here, your wife has a brain tumor which has succeeded in damaging the left side of her brain, as a matter of fact she needs to undergo a major operation as soon as possible.
Hearing this, Bayo sank into the chair, as little bids of tears ran down his cheeks.
Doctor, what should I do? I can't lose my wife.. he said in a weary voice.
It's okay, doctor Timi replied, all you have to do is raise a sum of $1000 so we can proceed with the operation on Tuesday, failure to do this would have great consequences as your wife needs immediate health attention.
A brain tumor operation was no child's play and there was no way Bayo could afford to pay for such considering how life has capsized on him.
A few years ago Bayo was managing a top banking firm in the western part of Nigeria and holding board meetings with top men from the financial sector.
Things were moving on so well for him that he got married to the love of his life Miss Stella Ade, However a meltdown in the country's economy led to massive sacks in the financial sector and he was affected.
As he left Faith hospital Ikeja, he had no idea of how he would go about raising the funds needed for the operation.
He had felt so empty and dejected because ever since his wife became sick, he has had to sell off almost all his landed property in the island of Lagos to raise money yet it was not enough.
Riding his car which he now uses as a taxi that day, Bayo who is quite a tall and lanky man was lost in thought.
The incident from the hospital was all he could think about. I'm dropping here a husky voice commanded from the back seat of the car.
Forcing the car to a stop, Bayo noticed for the second time as the man came down from the taxi and hurriedly left down the street.
On getting home he noticed that a black briefcase was sitting at the back of the car, how can this be he murmured to himself..
He opened the briefcase and was shocked at the content of the bag, rolls of $100 bills neatly tucked into the big black brief case. he quickly counted it and found out it was $10,000 in total.
Holy molly!!!, he exclaimed he quickly took the bag into his apartment. Throughout the night Mr Bayo couldn't sleep properly, all he thought about was how his whole life would change if he decided to keep the money.
Maybe it was God's own way of providing for him, he exclaimed, but then this was not his money he thought, this was indeed a huge temptation and he had to decide wisely.
The next morning Bayo zoomed out of his apartment and walked hurriedly to the nearest police station, where he dropped the bag and explained how he came across it to the police officers on duty.
In less than 10 hours the police where able to trace the ownership of the item to Chief Chukwuemeka who was a popular businessman in the area.
Chief Chukwuemeka in return rewarded him for his honesty by helping to settle his wife's hospital bill as well as to employ him to work in one of his business center's.
This story teaches us the value of honesty.

You set up a great conflict. Steal the money and save his wife, or give the money back and possibly lose his wife. That is a great temptation. It is reasonable (or at least believable) that the rich chief would help an honest man.
