Whenever I remember this story I want to share, what comes to my mind is that in some disappointments, there are blessings. Some doors close to one's advantage but as humans who can't be sure of what the future entails, we complain and wish that such doors never close.

It was the last day of the semester in school and I decided to travel to a neighboring city to spend the holiday with my Aunty. Immediately I finished my examination for the day, I couldn't wait for the following day to embark on the journey. I went back to my hostel to pick my bag and headed straight to the park. I was hungry but the amount of money with me was almost what was needed for my transportation fare. I decided to make my journey and eat when I arrived at my Aunt's place.

As I was approaching the section of the park loading passengers to my route, I heard the conductor, the common name for someone helping to call passengers into a vehicle, calling the name of my destination. On getting close to the bus, I asked about the number of passengers already on ground and I was told one. I was a bit disappointed considering how long I would have to wait for the bus to get filled. Going to the express to board a vehicle already on transit wasn't part of my options because I had been robbed through such sometime in the past. I inquired about the cost of transportation and I realized that I had 100 naira left which could get me snacks. I decided to exercise patience for the bus to get filled. I took my snacks and remained seated waiting for more passengers to come so that we could start the three hour journey.

From expecting sixteen more passengers at my point of coming to the park, more passengers showed up to the point of waiting for only three more to get the bus ready to take off. I needed to urinate and I approached the conductor to give me some minutes to do that and return.
As I returned to the vehicle, I saw people making payment and getting seated for departure. Passengers pay money at the point of take off in the park. I quickly removed my money from my pocket and stretched my hand to give it to the conductor but the next thing I heard from him was that the vehicle was full.

How come? I was the second person to board this vehicle out of eighteen. This is not fair.

I flared up at the conductor.

Unfortunately, these conductors rarely have sympathy for anyone's predicament for as long as such is not needed to get their money at that point in time.

Oga, the vehicle is filled up. Join the next one.

He replied to me while he closed the bus' door for it to depart.
I was dumbfounded. I later realized that four people came at once when I left to urinate, to fill the bus. I stood for a few seconds as I watched the vehicle depart to my greatest disappointment.

I weighed my options once again and decided to join the next vehicle. Luckily enough, it was a car that transports six passengers. About 30 minutes later, the vehicle filled up and we took off.

We barely traveled 50 kilometers when I sighted personnel of FRSC, a paramilitary body in charge of road safety, in a rescuing operation. Our vehicle parked just like quite a number of vehicles before us in order to join in the rescue operation. I looked in the ditch and the vehicle that lost control and found its way there was the same bus that I was to follow from the park.
We joined the people we met to rescue the occupants of the ill fated bus. The injured were rushed to hospital for medical attention. No life was lost in the accident.

We continued our journey and so many things were going through my mind as we proceed. When I missed the bus, I was angry not knowing that I was escaping a mishap through the process. Perhaps, a dangerous door closed and a safer one opened for me that day.

"I would have been one of the injured"

This is something that will keep coming into your mind while praising God for saving you. Many times, we do not understand that God is working until we come to realize why something happened.

Thank God for escaping such incidence.

I was practically cold and shaking. Many imaginations went through my head.

That is incredibly lucky! While reading this at first, I thought to myself. It's no surprise that someone has had an incident with a bus/ bus driver, I know tons of people who have issues with them.

But, then to hear that the car came along only a few minutes later, I thought at least you had a silver lining. Then to hear of the accident; it's so lucky you weren't on it, and even more so that no one was hurt in the accident.

Yeses! a very good reminder that sometimes what we sometimes call a disappointment may actually just be a blessing in disguise. A very nice way of keying into the prompt nice one👍👍

For whatever has happened, I have learnt to live with it and not to disturb myself if it's not within my power to change.

👍👍

Bro, this is just me... whenever I faces such case of being left out, I don't bother. I'll just let nature and situation play themselves... because of such stories.

Thank God the disappointment happened,,it turned out to a blessing

That's good of you. I have learnt from that experience not to get disturbed again by such happenings.

This frustrating situation ended up saving you a lot of pain and suffering potentially! It is relief to hear that no one was killed, but what a chilling scenario to experience! We would have loved to hear what was going through your head after such a wild moment. Thank you for sharing your story with us, and for your engagement with other members of the community.

Wow! This is crazy, but in hindsight we sometimes realize that these things are part of a bigger picture.

Honestly... We can't see beyond the immediate in the real sense. We can only predict.
