My procrastination cost me my results

Red eyeballs, swollen faces, puffy eye bags, this was exactly the facial description of my course mates and me on that fateful day of our first-ever examination in the prestigious Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) Nigeria from the time we got admitted to study computer science.

"How can I be sweating so profusely when 6 ceiling fans are blowing at their highest above my head?" I kept pondering as I sat at the end of the class chewing the back cover of my pen and watching my coursemates discussing their opinions about the questions we should expect.

I decided to wear a black T-shirt and a black trouser as well on that day because I planned to answer the questions and tell them "Rest in Peace."

It was obvious that most of the students had read very well overnight for this examination, but even though I stayed up all night studying for this examination, I couldn't help but find myself glancing back at a piece of paper every 5 seconds where I wrote the answers to all the questions that I, unfortunately, thought would come out on that day.

This first paper was supposed to be the easiest of all the 9 papers we would be writing for the semester because the lecturer in charge of the course was kind enough to tell us exactly where his questions would be coming from.

Most of my coursemates took advantage of the area of concentration given by the lecture and prepared accordingly.

Just while I was still deep in my thoughts, my best friend Andrew came in and joined me in the back seat. Andrew is the son of a senior lecturer in my department and because of that, he had connections with most of the other lecturers.

That was why I believed him when he called me last night to tell me that he had a leaked copy of our question paper for today's exam and that I should study it rather than focusing my attention on the area of concentration given by that lecturer.

"How far my guy, did you study the questions I sent to you last night?" Andrew asked me as we shook hands.

"I did bro, but how sure are you about those questions?" I asked almost frowning my face like I wanted to cry.

"Where did you get that leaked question paper? and how much did you pay to get it" I almost didn't give him space to answer one question before asking him another.

"Whoa! whoa!! whoa!!! Calm down bro, or don't you want it the easy way"

"I do but...."

"Then relax and see why they call me Andrew the connection Lord."

"Is alright, but just so you know, I didn't study the area of concentration given by Dr. Ben, as I was busy sorting out the answers to the questions you sent to me."

"No wonder you are sweating so much, hehe, your head must be very full by now" He said as he laughed out loud.

By this time the whole class had turned back looking towards our direction, and wondering what was making us so excited.

I was not happy because I didn't study the area of concentration given by Dr. Ben even though he gave it to us two weeks before the exams.

Procrastination has been one of my major challenges in life, and it has cost me a fortune. I had the whole week to study what Dr. Ben gave us but I thought I had alot of time to still prepare, and so I was waiting for the right time.

Before we could continue talking the invigilator had already shown up, and everyone acting like they were possessed started seeking places to sit down.

All the students wanted to sit near Gideon the most intelligent boy in class, but Andrew and I remained in the back seat, as we thought we had everything under control.

"I pity all these students because Dr.Ben has deceived them with that area of concentration and has setup a different thing in the question paper"* - Andrew said to me in a low voice while shaking his head from left to right.

"Dr. Ben is a very wicked man for doing that, so if you hadn't sent me those questions I would have stayed up all night studying what wouldn't show up in the exam".

"Take out anything that can implicate you, because if I find any smartphone or even wristwatch on you, consider yourself a carryover student" The invigilator warned as he started sharing the question paper and answer script from the front row.

The invigilator was already in the 3rd row and I could see students who had glanced through their question paper raising their hands and thanking God in celebration. My friend and I stayed calm and waited for the question paper to get to us and it finally did.

After glancing through the questions, I put both hands in my face and said "Am finished."

I turned to my right where Andrew was sitting and I told him that he was the worst friend I had ever met. Dr. Ben kept his word and gave us exactly what he said he would give us, but while everyone's pens were busy on their answer scripts, I was looking for who would show me their work so that I could copy it.

The exams ended with my friend and I writing very little on our answer booklets. Perhaps the grass is not always greener on the other side because if I had appreciated and focused on the area of concentration given to us by Dr. Ben and not Procrastinated, I would have been smiling after this exam.

I appreciate your time around here❤️:-)

If you are frustrated in your studies, even the air of six ceiling fans does not help at times. Along with that, if you have a smartphone and a watch, it can make it more difficult to concentrate on studying with the value of time. I thought you were going to observe the day of mourning in a black t-shirt and trousers. But the value of time always trumps education. Amazing story Thanks friend for presenting us some amazing stories of your college life.

You have made very interesting remarks here friend. College frustrations are usually not easy. But I have learned to do things at the right time to avoid falling in such situations again.

Thanks for reading through:-)

An experience that made you sweat a lot but gave you a good lesson, trusting your skills is more important than copying. Very good message.
Regards

You are right on that boss, I should focus more on my skills and trust it to deliver me when the time comes. I really appreciate your amazing time here.

Okay. I wanted to laugh, but I decided not to. The best you could've done was study both. That way, you wouldn't be stranded. I'm glad you learned though.

hehe, don't mind me oo my dear. The time I would have used for study was the time I rested the most. But thank God I graduated 😂

We thank God for grace. 😂
