The blue clover and the rose bush

Blue clover and rose bush.jpg

Do four-leaf clovers exist? In nature it is possible to find them, but they are very rare and they say that if you find one of these, it will bring you good luck.

But even more rare is to find a clover with four blue leaves, this is almost impossible, not to say that you will never see it in your life.

But a clover with four white blue appeared one day in the garden of Mrs. Leonor, at first it went unnoticed, but the gardener found it just before pruning the roses of a bush under which it was. Surprised, he cleaned around it to make it more visible and called the owner of the house to see it. What admiration from the whole family. The children watched it closely and counted the number of leaves over and over again.

The blue four-leaf clover became the sensation of the neighborhood and the news of its appearance reached the botanists, who quickly arrived at Mrs. Leonor's house to study and photograph it. Where did this rare plant come from? How did it develop here ? were the questions they asked themselves And they even dared to propose to the family that they would take it to investigate it. Of course, they received a resounding no answer.

And there was a very good reason for this. Since the clover appeared in the garden, the family was doing better. The father had gotten a job, the grandfather who had been very ill had healed. The grandmother remembered everything she had forgotten and the mother... the mother was cheerful all day long, she sang and danced, the bitterness had escaped from her beautiful face and the children were happy.

And all this they attributed to the lucky clover. What a joy to have it in our garden, said the mother, grateful for this gift. It could have grown anywhere else, but it chose this one.

“We have to take good care of it” she said their young children, a four year old girl, very alert and talkative, with intense blue eyes and for that reason her mother had named her Hortensia, and a six year old boy, with very tender black eyes, tall and thin as a stick, named Joaquín.

And so the days went by with good news that spread to the neighbors and then to the whole town. The magic of the clover spread more and more. The river was full of fish, the trout jumped between the rocks, happy and colorful. Birds sang merrily in the branches of the trees. The grain and cereal crops were abundant and everyone enjoyed good health.

One afternoon, when Joaquín and Hortensia were playing in the forest, while their parents were picking mushrooms to prepare a meal, they heard a voice calling them and a little frightened they went to the place where it came from. Behind a tree, there was a man of small size, almost like theirs.

“Are you a dwarf?” asked Hortensia, looking at him closely as she was used to.

“I am a goblin, can't you see! I'm wearing a pointed green hat" said the little man, annoyed.

Don't bother! I have never seen a leprechaun before.”

“If you are a goblin and you are talking to us!”, said Joaquín with astonishment.

“Of course I am, you don't see me," growled the goblin again. And jumping among the trees, he went away singing this song

Beneath the roses
The four-leaf clover is
Don't ever cut its stem
The man in the mask
They must drive away
And in your home
The magic will live on

The children watched him walk away, singing that song over and over again.

What did he mean by that song, Joaquín wondered, while his sister repeated the verse she had already learned. And in his childish but at the same time mature mind, Joaquín told his sister.

The clover is in danger, we must tell mom and dad!”.

They both ran to meet them and told him what they had seen and heard. They smiled at each other, but did not give it any importance, they thought the children's imagination was amazing and went back to the house.

Joaquin and Hortensia kept an eye on the clover when their activities at home and at school allowed them to do so. They were very worried and ready to confront the man in the mask.

That day they were returning from school, as they always did, running down the path, and laughing, with the joy of childhood. Minutes before, the gardener had spoken to his mother, and had told her.

“Mrs. Amelia, we must cut down the rose bush, it is too old now, and in its place plant another one, so that it will continue to shade the clover. Besides, there is a honeycomb of wasps there, which are dangerous, they can sting the children.”

“All right, do what you think is best, but be careful with the clover and the wasps, so they don't sting you” said Mrs. Amelia

“Don't worry, I'm going to put on this mask that beekeepers wear to protect me.”

The children were frightened to see how the man in the mask cut the stem of the rose bush and could do nothing to prevent it.

Before their eyes, the clover, which glowed white, withered until it withered completely. The rose bush that served not only as shade but also as sustenance, since it supplied the food that the rose bush could not produce, had died.

Sadness flooded the hearts of that family and especially the hearts of the children, for they had failed to protect the clover.

The days passed and everyone was worried and worried that they would lose what the clover had given them, they had not understood that these gifts did not disappear with his death.

The children returned to the forest. They wanted to find the goblin who had warned them and apologize to him for having neglected the clover. They saw him behind the tree and approached him expecting a sharp scolding, but it was not to be.

“Hello children, don't think I'm always grumpy! I'm in a good mood now. The clover has returned.”

And turning away from the tree, he let them see the clover, with its three green leaves, as common as any other in the forest.

And before he disappeared they heard him shouting.

“Be happy children!”

What a beautiful story @popurri, which deep down has a teaching. The clover is in our hearts, we just require something to make us remember that it is in us where the whole source of happiness and harmony dwells, but yes, from time to time a four-leaf clover, blue, white or green, is necessary in our lives. Greetings.

Hello @sirenahippie, you did a beautiful interpretation of my story, you wrote it in the best way, with feeling. I loved reading it. Thank you very much.

Interesting story. You kept me reading as I wanted to find out what was behind the goblin’s message and what would happen eventually.

Hello @kei2. I'm glad for your comment and hope you liked the ending of the story. Thank you very much and best regards

You establish a voice in this story which suits the narrative. Goblins and curses, blessing and four leaf clovers. These are the things of myth and your story has the ring of a myth. There remains a question though, perhaps, in the reader's mind: Why would the goblin warn the children about 'the man in a mask' if the goblin wanted his clover back?

Thank you for sharing this lovely story with the Ink Well community. We appreciate that you engage meaningfully with other writers.

Thanks for your comment @theinkwell. The theme of this challenge has a lot of magic.
It's a question whose answer lies in the mischievousness of leprechauns. I think each person reading the story could give it a different interpretation.
Of course, I like to read other stories, they are very good writers.

I found the tone of this tale delightful. I think that what is regarded by one as lucky and unusual can also be common, without losing its power. Beautifully told, full of wonder and fantasy. I absolutely loved it. WoW❤️💕🤗

Sad that the prophecy came true and the goblin got all the magic back. I also wrote a story about the luck that the clover brings! It's nice to see that we had the same object to stimulate our creativity! I enjoyed your story very much, but hopefully the children will find a way to share the luck and magic with the goblin so all can enjoy the good fortune! 😅

Hello @stormcharmer. Leprechauns are somewhat mischievous. But I in my story I figured that the family keeps their good luck even though they no longer have the shamrock. How nice that you wrote about the magic of the shamrock, I'm going to read your story,.
Thank you very much for your kind comment.
