The preparation for the IIMK Journey
Securing a spot at IIM Kozhikode (Kochi Campus) is no easy feat. For an entire year, he poured his heart into rigorous preparation. Though he had hoped to break into some of the other top-tier IIMs, fate unfortunately had other plans. Yet, his dedication never wavered. Over that year, he maintained a highly disciplined routine, intentionally focusing on holistic growth alongside his studies—even joining a Toastmasters club to master the art of public speaking.While the majority of IIMs accept students through the standard IPMAT exam, IIM Kozhikode stands out. They conduct their own distinct entrance test and rigorous personal interview, which gives their program a unique, highly prestigious tag value.His interview was scheduled in Kolkata. To ensure he was well-rested, we traveled there by train a couple of days in advance. But the journey truly began long before the train ride. We spent weeks meticulously preparing, right down to selecting the perfect outfit for this milestone moment—knowing deeply that those crucial ten minutes inside the interview room could completely rewrite a person's destiny.
The train journey was pathetic as we did not get the food at right time.
The vendor cancelled our first order and then by the time we noticed that, we could not order it from the nearest station.
But that is what these kids need to learn - how to manage things better. The train arrived couple of hours late, adding to his frustrations but once we reached, it was all good as my brother's driver was waiting to pick up us.
Stepping into the comfort of a home was exactly the grounding he needed to calm his nerves before the big day. Because his interview was scheduled at the Taj Vivanta, Kolkata—which was quite far from my brother’s house—we made careful logistics plans and prepared to head out early in the morning.Rituals are a cornerstone of our lives, offering strength before life-altering moments. To anchor him in blessings, my brother’s wife took care of the morning prayers, lighting a sacred diya to usher in positivity and warmth before we stepped out the door.
To make things even more perfect, a very special message from his sister, instantly lifted his spirits, putting him in the perfect mindset for the challenge ahead.
As we finally stepped into the interview area, a heavy, nervous calm filled the air. I could tell his heart was racing with anxiety, but I stayed right by his side the entire time, gently reassuring him and reminding him to just breathe and take it easy.
The moment he finally stepped inside the interview room, the nervousness I had been holding back for his sake suddenly caught up with me. To keep my own anxiety at bay and distract my racing mind, I pulled out my phone and passed the time losing myself in a bit of photography.
When he finally walked out of the room, the intense anticipation broke. Even though he felt his performance wasn't a hundred percent flawless, there was a lingering, positive sense that the possibility was still very much alive. Seeing him overthink, I immediately advised him to let it go and stop analyzing every detail.By then, the adrenaline had faded, leaving us both absolutely starving. Eating at the Taj Vivanta was definitely way out of our budget, so we found a nearby Subway instead. With our packed meals in hand, we headed straight to my brother’s office to eat and unwind — more to come...

Thats a beast adventure. That train ride lol, darn man. I have seen some videos of train rides in different country, i know sometimes its a rough service but at least you were able to continue the journey. Congrats to the young man.
