Important of Card Placement!

Hello everyone,

In this post I will be sharing and explaining why is it important to pay attention to how you place your cards for either new or old players that still not know this or did not pay attention or notice it.

A lot of players including myself until recently, place the cards randomly while playing and without caring or paying attention to where he places the cards.

This is totally fine in most cases and does not harm you in any way. However, in some cases where there are several effects on board, you have to pay attention to where you place a certain card to maximize all effects and take all benefits. So this post will be explaining everything about this in details!

Let's first start by mentioning what are the type of time effects if I might call them, for any new player that might not know them.

Type of Time Effects

There are 4 types of time effects in game:

1- At the Start of your turn: This one always happens directly after it is your turn so it is always the first effect to happen.

2-Roar: This effect happens as soon as you put a card on board, so it makes sense that it is after the first effect because you can't put a card on board unless it was your turn.

3- Afterlife: This effect happens as soon as the card with the effect dies. So this depends on when exactly was the card removed.

4- At the End of your Turn: This effect happens as soon as you press this arrow and give your opponent the turn. So it is the last effect to happen.

Now here is where things gets interesting! Let's say you have 2 afterlives effects on board, and they both happen to die at exactly the same time with a spell which effect would take place first?

This is where card placement comes into play!

All effects that are of the same timing, if they happened to exist at the same time on board or into play, the effects happen from left to right of where the cards are placed!

Now you can start to see how card placement might effect the outcome of plays at some point! you might want certain effects of the same time type at some places to take place before others to maximize the results!

I will give 2 in-game example to show where can this make a difference!

First example:

ex.jpg

The first example is going to be about the placement of these 2 cards.
I tested the example in a customized game to give more overview on it.

bad pos 1.jpg

In this example, my god HP was 17.

As we can see, I placed the possessed acolyte on the left and the Void banshee on the right. My opponent then used the hunt in the next turn so both of them died at the same time.

Since they both have the same time effect which is Afterlife the afterlife of the Acolyte was triggered first since it was on the left. Therefore no Netherspawn was summoned and then I took 4 damage from banshee after. Here is the result.

bad pos result.jpg

As we can see an empty board! So the positioning of this was wrong!

Now let's check out a different placement!

Right placement 1.jpg

In this one we can see that the Void banshee is on the left and the Possessed Acolyte was on the right. My HP was also 17 and I made my friend use the hunt again.

Since the Banshee is on the left, his afterlife will trigger first and damage my god for 4 to become 13 HP and then the afterlife of the Acolyte will happen and thus spaw a netherspawn. Here is the result.

Right placement result.jpg

So the placement here was right and maximized the use of our afterlives!

Second example

The second example is a more famous one but I could not test it in a game since I do not have all cards! But I will explain everything in pictures!

wrong card placement zombies.jpg

In this picture we can notice that we have 2 effect of the same time which is At the end of your turn. So with this card placement, with Netherswarm on the left, after getting frenzied and ending our turn, since there won't be zombies spawning first, the effect will go to waste and then the Cursed obelisks will spawn 2 zombies without receiving any buffs!

right placement zombies.jpg

However, in this placement, with the Cursed Obelisks on the left, after we get frenzied and end our turn, it will first spawn 2 1/1 zombies, and then they will get the Netherswarm buff to become 2/2 both! This we we made the best use of all our abilities!

Conclusion

So as we can see, even though card placement might not always be important or make any difference, it is sometimes so important to maximize the results we get out of our effects, and this can be game changing!

So it is always important to keep an eye out in case you have 2 cards of the same time effect, and pay attention to how you place them to get the maximum result out of them!

Those 2 examples are only two scenarios out of many, although you might not face a lot of them but they do exist and they might be even more frequent in the future when more and more cards are released!

So that was it for this post, hope it was helpful to anyone and that I sent a new piece of information to anyone! Let me know in the comments if you knew about this or if you have any question, suggestions or comment about my post in the comments below!

Mad love, Peace out!

Nice, was always wondering how card effects take precedence. This information really makes a big difference for certain decks like Zombie death, so great work!

Thanks man! Glad it helped!

Nice stuff! I've been working on a YouTube video about card placement. Void Banshee + Possessed Acolyte wasn't a combo I had considered being important for order, very smart!

Thank you! I love your videos can't wait for this one to come up!

Thank you for clarifying. I actually noticed that sonething was going wrong with the obelisk and netherswarm combo. Now I know the reason. Didn't see this explained anywhere else.

This stuff is easily overlooked. I didn't know that card placement should also be considered for afterlife effects. Thanks for that info!

This is an eye opener. Before now I used to think there was a glitch somewhere, cause some effects aren't triggered on some of my cards, now I understand why.

Glad it was helpful!

Great post: good to know! Definitely messed this up a couple of times whilst playing zombie death :)

Happens to all of us man!

Good job! When I started playing I wasn't paying much attention to the placement. Even now, I didn't know how to play the Void Banshee. 😄

Thank you! And yes turns out there are a lot of cards that matters how to place!
