A community for all things pollen

in The Pollen Flow4 years ago

I decided to create a community on Hive that will help bring more awareness to the pollination of plants. Without these creatures many of the plants we know today would become extinct. And up to 10% of flowers require special kinds of pollinators, and without certain species of bugs those plants as well would not be able to reproduce. But with over 200,000 different species of pollinators on planet earth life always seems to find a way.

The Pollen Flow is the time of year where flowers are producing the most pollen, many creatures take advantage of this time to feed on the nectar and collect pollen from the flowers they visit. In return as many pollinators visit flowers they will alow these plants to reproduce.

In the last few years I have really gotten into building homes for solitary bees, and in return they have given me great fruit yields. Just watching them travel from their homes to flowers and back carrying pollen makes me happy. So I wanted to start a community, where others can post content about what they witness around them with their flowers and insects. Even birds and bats pollinate plants, hummingbirds will do this during the day. And at night bats will come out and help certain night blooming flowers.

Content that is welcome in this community:

  • Posts about honey, its consumption, processing, or anything else related to it.

  • Posts about bugs and animals that are visiting flowers, or pictures and video of them covered in pollen.

  • Posts about pollinator gardens, or plants that encourage bees, butterflies, bats, flies, birds and other pollinators.

  • Posts about bee keeping, honey bees or solitary bees.

  • Any content that is related to pollen is basically what we are going for here.

That's quite a specific community. We do need to look after our pollinators. We seem to have several varieties of bee in our garden and I ought to properly log them. I expect they will not be as active as we go into the cooler months though. I have tried to build some solitary bee homes with mixed success. I will look into what could be better for next year.

Yeah well we already have Fascinating Insects and the Feathered friends community so I thought something that joins multiple communities together would be interesting. Since pollination is done by mammals, avian species and insects alike.

A journal would be cool but yeah we are near the end of the flowering season. So maybe next year I will post my bee keeping content in this community along with photos and video I capture of things feeding on flowers.

I subscribe to this community in the hope of learning how to increase pollination and food production in my garden
and I also like to ask what kind od beehive I use for normal garden

Oh nice.. I'll be talking about that alot in posts I share in this community. My Mason bees have greatly increased yield in my blueberries.

As for what kind of bee hive, I am a beginning in honey bees. But I have two bee hives. Each holds eight frames I believe. I also have a feeder on top of my hives so I can give them sugar water.

I suggest you watch videos by Barnyard Bees on youtube. I bought my bees from them and they have some very informative videos on their channel.
