How not to be scammed by people on Hive/Online (Small Guide)

in Cent4 days ago

There will always be scammers on Hive & the world wide web. (Also irl, but irl is for noobs)

So with the "latest" news of people getting scammed on Hive via Discord by @seunruth, I decided to make a little guide, might be common sense, might be random jibberish, might help some, who knows.

When it comes to me and my language, it can be quite brutal and offense and its not getting any less bad when dealing with scammers.

A few ground rules I follow:

I NEVER open links from mails or from people I don't know.
What I do, is that I go to the website I know is correct and to see if I can do it through that.
(I also RARELY open links from people I know, unless I have confirmed its them and not someone pretending to be them x))

I NEVER pick up the phone if I don't know the number. If you want to contact me, leave a msg or text me. I will not be taking my phone.
(On a few occasions I have taken the phone and it have been a scammer, if that happens I just fuck with them, if they tell me I have some bitcoin laying around I tell them to keep it because they sounds poor. I have also on occasions told the scammer to go die of cancer)

If Scammers try and do magic for you irl, keep your hands in your pockets, so they dont steal your phone.

Just a handful of small good tips to not get scammed.

But lets jump on to Hive.

NOBODY on Hive will double your money or give you extra for sending them money x)

DON'T login to unverified websites, they can steal your keys - Also, don't give any your keys out to anyone EVER on Hive (Keychain & Hivesigner, is good)

Don't send money to people begging via Discord. I know you want to help and be a good person. But all you do is fund some useless cunts life x)

If you ask questions on Discord, any member of staff will NOT contact you directly and if they do I would be very sceptical and again, DO NOT click any links they provide (99% its a scam)

Also, never click links on Discord in general.
Discord once allowed users to change the visible url to something different, making it easier to scam people. But I don't know if this is still true.

Final words.

Always verify before transfer anything to anyone for any reason x)

There is a lot of scams out there and Ai will only accelerere this x)

Sort:

People are just too nice, which in an ideal world, is a great virtue. Sadly we don't live in an ideal world.

I don't mind too much taking scam calls over the phone, especially when I'm bored and have plenty of time to kill. I know they're trying to scam me so I just play along to waste their time, that way they can't go and scam someone else.

I know I know, its a shame :/

I don't do that, because somehow some scammers over the phone made my phone bill go up x)
Not sure how xD

Well said!

I was contacted by someone unknown on Instagram yesterday. It always starts like this and they tell something to get you to pay or invest in some shady stuff. This was rampant in telegram but lately it's very less. This is also one of the reasons why people are suspicious about crypto because these bros usually pop out and present you with a too good to be true investment plan asking you to click a link etc.

I personally don't entertain them much. It's a waste of time.

Ye its everywhere sadly x(

And ye, it doesn't give Crypto a good name between normal people xD

I have also gotten a few on telegram, but not that many. I just report them and block them.

My biggest problems is the phone calls I get x)
I am in the progress of change my number and get a second number, so I can swap between a personal one and a number for platforms asking for one x)

Thank you so much for this reminder, mostly this ending of the year scammers has increased and are everywhere.

This last week, a certain landline phone number has been calling me... I refuse to answer or call back...so that's the in thing.

You are welcome.

It can become crazy yes!
I have gotten 4 scam calls today alone x)

You know all those do increase as we have entered "Ember Months", more carefulness is needed..

I've seen some scammy stuff on Discord and elsewhere. You have to be so careful and a lot of people have no idea of the risks.

Ye, its everywhere at this point :/

Good advice! Thanks for writing this.

Thanks!

It seems like a good idea to remind people once in a while :D

It's getting too much on discord channels. They keep increasing every day. When one gets scammed he will look for another to recover his losses. As for me I am not freak about freebies. So I can't be scammed. Thanks for sharing this tips.

Its getting worse everywhere x) and as I said, Ai will just make worse.

Thanks for this article 😊

You are welcome!
It was your post which kick started the idea :D

Some of us definitely learned something 😉

Be careful with people faking sickness and need of money also 😬

It goes under the "begging" part, but yes, people use "sickness" aswell :D

Thanks
