I'm sure there's many on here who don't really think too much about the rewards when they're posting, either cause they've been on hive long enough to get jaded to the whole upvote system or they've been through a lot of other things on chain and price wise.
I do some times care about them, because they aid me in wanting to fund and create certain things. At the same time I wouldn't think about abusing the autovotes I get cause that'd just be quite low of a thing to do. For instance by using AI to help me generate posts or to just go on a tanget about the same thing over and over. I.e. making it "farmy". I think that if I were to do that, one thing I'd focus on is to post daily once as the way my autovotes work is that on the second post they usually become much smaller.
I do sometimes find the time and want to post more though, while at the same time some times I can go for days without posting and it kind of is in the back of my head like "you could've earned some hive today if you've spent an hour posting". It's still not worth it in terms of pushing yourself to post, though.
I realize I may sound a bit like a douchebag saying that at current times with the economy being all shit, most wouldn't even question it being in a similar position and make the most of it. At the same time it has felt a bit like if I'm not posting, those rewards end up going somewhere anyway and I'm not sure if that's a better alternative currently when instead I could use them to further fund different things or delegate to more deserving curators, etc.
Most of that reasoning is that as a curator we don't have a lot of new authors coming up, and that's kind of the thing we've focused with OCD for most of the time.
There's often however when I post something and also reject any rewards, especially when I don't put much effort into that post, which is kinda cool that we can do it and have plenty of places we can forfeit the rewards so it's put to good use. I don't see a lot of people doing that however which is the reason I'm asking this.
Maybe most people just believe/know that hive is going to do better eventually? Or they just can't be bothered to set beneficiaries. I do however wonder how many would still post even if there's no rewards to be had at all.
I'm not asking this in a negative way. I know there's many who love writing and have integrated with the community and built relationships with others in many different ways. Also of course the immutability is quite cool, being able to go read posts/comments from a decade ago that you've written, knowing they'll always be there. There's something quite powerful in that. I've joked that if only blockchain existed in year 0 we would know what was actually said back then rather than a book that's been rewritten countless times over the years. This is kind of day 0 of actual immutability. Even with the internet it's going to be hard to prove that a post/comment 20 years ago said what people say it does from screenshots/old databases as things can be edited/altered/faked which has become a lot more apparent with AI and how it helps you do things. They won't however be able to fake content in actual blocks, unless you're still on Steem I guess.
This post got longer than I expected, lol. Sending some of the author rewards to @commentrewarder.

I agree with you i also see less new people here on Hive but some are still coming here.....
Spending three years here on Hive now it's not just about rewards.... Now it's like a habit... Mostly to have a busy bee reward's.... In case of rewards I'm not so inspired.... Many people asked me what's inspire you to come here and write here daily even in these day's and i simply said there's fun too like we participate in the system 😀
I'm here until I've free time in real life this market can't let me down to leave this place.....

I do, but for one main reason, if I write something that I think is particular well done I like getting upvotes, not necessarily because of the payout, but because the post is higher up on the 'hot' and 'trending' threads on Ecency, meaning there is a better chance of people reading it. High payouts don't necessarily mean people will read it, but there is a better chance of getting eyeballs on what we write. I could be wrong, but from what I see, large payouts = more exposure
Especially because 'hot' and 'trending' tabs transcend communities, and through those tabs I've met people and read things that I wouldn't have seen if I just scrolled through the communities I follow.
Secondary reason would be increasing my stake, even when I don't have much money to put into my account.
In regards to autovotes, I've often said that certain people could write about going to the toilet and get a massive payout, but as you said, most people like yourself in that position treat posting with responsibility, and that is clear, there are plenty of people here who could post daily if they wanted to.
In regards to how many people would post if there were no rewards, I think there would be a large drop off, but it's hard to judge
Originally I started created to 'earn' because that was the obvious pull of Hive and crypto elements but now that I have grown the creator mindset and actually want to create a 'high' quality post before publishing on a community.
For other purposes I just use the My Blog feature on Hive. The posts can see be seen if searched and I don't have to adhere or comply to rules or themes.
I also publish to show others that there are alternatives to current social platforms and there is value beyond the 'amount' earned in owning the creation. Might be silly, might seem weird but ownership of creation is a big part of why I continue posting on Hive.
And also
Same. lol
One of the issues right now I guess is autovotes, some people put lot of effort on a post to get little curation, and that's OK, quality and liking is subjective, but then they see low effort or automated stuff getting autovotes and bigger rewards and that's quite delusional... I can understand the reasons behind autovoting, but right now curation should be manual or ai assisted to discover posts
I haven't been on Hive for very long, just over two years, but I have come to understand the intrinsic value of Hive, beyond the rewards. Creating a blog, a space, a brand, and content that identifies you is very valuable, and even more so now with AI overshadowing what little creativity remains on the internet.
On the other hand, I won't deny that Author Rewards are a huge incentive for me, especially since I consider that I currently dedicate a large part of my time and effort to each publication which I share on my blog. I also prioritize quality, improving and evolving as a creator. That's why my 2024 posts are very different from my recent ones. So, because of all this and the sacrifice I make to my blog on Hive, I feel that I deserve the rewards I receive on my posts.
Yes, I admit it's less than what I received in my first year at Hive, but I still value each HIVE I get just as much or even more than before, since I have a different mindset than back then. Now I prioritize growing my account, accumulating HP, becoming a Dolphin in the near future and, who knows, an Orca in the distant future. I have my future goals, aware that Hive will last as long as it needs to. But I'm not seeking this growth just for myself, but to show others that it is possible, that all is not lost, and that now is the time to grow and create something of your own in Hive.
In times of difficulty, things are born and grow stronger than in times of tranquility.
Or at least that's what I think. 😅
At times I think about rewards. A week ago I made a post(it had a payout today) that had a total payout of $4.69. So I was glad about that. But at the same time I am a hoarder. Of art supplies, of HP. At this rate it is possible that I will never cash out and use my HP stake. So in a weird way the size of rewards matters little. Some days like yesterday total payout of my post was $0.58. Today it is $4.69...I would likely still keep posting what I like without cashing out even if every post of mine would earn 50-100 author rewards. I also still post on facebook despite not getting any money from that at all. So for me getting a few decent comments is perhaps even more important than the size of reward that I may or my not ever use.😛
Maybe important is the wrong word to use.relevant is probably a better choice of words. Few days ago on facebook one person praised my newest piece. In the past she had said that she would not buy art from someone who is self-taught. She still did not offer to buy that piece. But she said: how beautiful!!! congratulations.Knowing that someone likes what I do is at times more rewarding than getting huge payouts.I still want to earn more and much more frequently from what I create. But some days kind words are enough.
that's an odd thing to say, lol.
Yes. I believe that first(cavemen) artist were self-taught. So all art exists thanks to self-taught people. But that could be a whole rant for another time perhaps. People are weird sometimes. At that point I tried to argue with her. Prove my truth... But I think that she is not the worst person I met on internet.
Hahah, aint much but it's hw 😆 need to steal that pic. I am not thinking much about rewards, I just writte it like my diary, when I have time and inspiration 😍
You can create your own memes using submitted templates on decentmemes.com, they're already implemented on ecency and peakd!
@snapie added it too, but I'm not sure if it's integrated correctly.
Also you can submit templates yourself as well once a day, 1 hive burn if you wanna submit more than 1, but check that it doesn't already exist. :D
Rewards are fun, but since I don't really plan on ever withdrawing hive(with the costs of withdrawal to cad it would cost me a lot more to withdraw than it would earn me.) Some does end up getting invested in splinterlands or other games I might fancy.
I do think one of the things hive could use is easier onboarding. A lite login with an email that can be upgraded to a proper wallet would go a long way to helping increase people on here. Sites like peakd etc, seem like a really natural way to get people into crypto in general. The hive earned can feel more like points than earning money. It's just fun. I do love the idea of having enough hive that my upvotes are worth more than half a penny.
there's something about Peakd/hive that is a lot less spammy and fast paced then a lot of social media which is something that I appreciate.
no I don't really look at the rewards in general. However, I do have a set of rules for weekends (lowest reward days with least auto votes due to how people tend to prefixed their settings to 1 post a day and 7 times a week and limited their voting power to not go below 80%), such as timing the post to fire at certain time which can fish and extra one or two auto votes. But other than that, I am just going with the schedule, like I like to write in English once or twice at the beginning of the week, and the rest of the days I will be doing my usual chinese blogs. To me, writing is probably what kept me sane. If I let the reward bothered me, I think I will go insane even faster than I not writing here 😂
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't here for the rewards; I need them. However, if that were the only reason, many of us wouldn't be here. In my country, it's very difficult to afford to waste time, and I assure you that, even though I don't earn enough to pay my internet bill, I'm on Hive every day because it's become part of my daily routine. I wish I could get rewards every time I post, but that's secondary; it's no longer my priority. I hope the currency goes up or that my posts are well-received, but I'm happy that, even if that's not the case, I'm here like so many others because I enjoy it and because I believe Hive has great potential.
Depends. I don't write for rewards, but to deal with the world :-D Still, it is awesome to see those 20+ notifications after writing a post, including some comments that I can answer. Especially when there's a big, genuine (not automatic) upvote among them, either from a personal account or a curating account. That means that my post was liked enough by someone who has a lot of weight, and hopefully criteria. In that way, it does matter.
Also when it comes to be able to reward others with my upvotes growing. Reading a great post and being able to give a bigger vote than a month ago is kind of great. And it only grows if I either buy HIVE, or get upvotes on my posts. So, in that way, it does matter, too.
But luckily, I never depended on HIVE rewards in any way, and never will. So in the long run, they don't matter to me.
There has been talk on autovotes from old high-valued author(highly rewarded author) , this made me try one. It’s not working anyway.
Recent times, I have done same votes manually in quick succession(to Huve contributers like you) , like voting 5 people in 5 seconds, because I always go through their content and comment zig-zag after reading because they are always on my feed. I dont have much rewarding vote still)
Has this been affecting my Ke ratio?
If I have to put someone from Hive on Top 5 Creators, you will always be on the list. Always with everything you have done around Hive .Not just that when I see something off happening, you are the one talking about it or downvoting them or making a post about it. Always high respect for that.
I want to briefly understand the working KE mechanism.
I did powerdown, up, delegations, with the greed-goal to reaching 51k. I will go higher but ultimately I achieved it. In anyways, I have increased my stake overtime.
Now how do I improve the KE ratio? My content is neat but I see myself more of trader, so I play with tokens around and in Hive.
I respect people who have been long here and consistent and creates ecosytem, communties on Hive and they should always have high-reward than me. Everyone likes reward but I see hive as my diary. Some days have some great reward, some hasn’t. Which is fine. But I kept a note of my life on Hive. Which as a comtent creator would be rewarded in any form is great to me. Either by comment, votes, or engagements.
And, I have been on Hive in this way because somewhere somehow one of few reasons are your projects.
As for me, I started out here in the world of blockchain without knowing what blockchain was, let alone anything about cryptocurrencies. At first, I just saw it as a space where I could share my graffiti. Then I realized I could also express myself in an open space that allowed me to draw on my cultural background and roots to connect with others who shared similar thoughts. Although the concept of votes and rewards had always existed, I also told myself that those kinds of things weren’t for me, because, as we all know, there are many people who make money on platforms like Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and so on, but these are usually famous, influential, or talented people. I’m simply a graffiti artist who loves hip-hop culture.
But with time and perseverance, I gradually started making money, which eventually became a major source of income since I could earn enough to bring food home, and even today it’s still a way to make some money from my posts. However, most of the time when I post things, it’s just to clear my mind on a simple blog that’s out there for everyone to see.
I think you’ve raised a very important question about Hive: How many people would stay if there were no rewards? I agree that rewards can encourage creativity and fund projects, but the relationships within the community, the freedom to write, and the permanence of data on the blockchain are elements of great value that cannot be easily measured. I also appreciate how you discussed the responsibility associated with automatic voting and the importance of avoiding excessive “farming.” In reality, history, reputation, and everything that has been built over the long term are sometimes more important than daily rewards. This is a very interesting point that deserves consideration by the entire community
I care about my post rewards, but not because of their current value. For me it is kind of a game, just like Splinterlands. It is fun to accumulate Hive and rise in staked Hive rankings. I am in top 500 Hive stakers without much of a dollar investment.
That's kind of fun, I have never been in top 500 stakeholders on any chain or a company. So I view this as buying lottery tickets, what if one day Hive becomes a recognizable name like Facebook? Those in top one thousand stakeholders will never have to work a day in their life under that scenario...
Rewards for three years of activity on Hive, like half a month's salary.
I'm certainly not here for the prizes, but even when I played monopoly, I liked to have a bunch of "monopoly" money on my side, so here too 😁
I'm glad that the balance is growing, because in this way I contribute to others by curating, and everything I post stays here for me as long as BC exists (like my online collection...).
Sometimes it's like me and food... I was taught by my father to like "almost" any food in the world (aka to get knowledge and learn about every side of things), and now I am facing this ish "problem of liking everything" too much because, the higher the level of comparison one can have, the more you know things, the more you enjoy them on average, because of how much you can compare (taste wise at least).
Unsure if I explained this correctly, but it's something within those lines.
I post when I have something to say that I want permanently engraved on the blockchain.
I comment when I read something interesting from someone I follow.
The rewards are too small these days to even think about.
1 hive is still 1 hive somewhat :D i try not to think about it in terms of $ and I'm not a fan of platforms showing that tbh.
That's why I opted for HP rewards on scrobble.life/reviews for instance.
I love Hive; it's the only social network that has rewarded me for doing what I love. Thanks to Hive, I can cover some simple expenses—not as much as before, but I'm still here. I have fun, I learn, and I'm excited to be part of something. The rewards are important to me, but it's also a habit I really enjoy.
When I first joined I thought about the rewards a lot, now the coin is virtually worthless (probably costs more in electricity than any rewards gotten back) it is kind of freeing in a way
I don't know about the electricity part, it's not that expensive to run hive. :D
More a complaint about uk energy prices than actual critique of Hive really :P
🤣
Nah. I just enjoy interacting with folks more than anything. As far as posting, it is more of a release for me. Allows me to free my thoughts. Rewards are cool and all, but not top of mind.
The answer is "yes" and "no". The main reason I joined Hive was to make money; however, sometimes I share articles that I believe would impact on readers. In such case, reward is secondary, provided I'm able to touch or add value to lives.
This has become a habit, and it’s not just about the money. I’ve seen hundreds who only show up when there’s money. My curator stopped receiving her delegation and the votes went down the drain because of that, so papapeppers and edgardgonzalez, among all the ones she curated, left. Meanwhile, we’re still here, even if the frequency of posts is lower. And yes, people have been scared off, and when there’s no money they leave. They don’t realize that this is our best moment, when we should be posting.
Anyway, we keep going, and it’s not all just about money.
Maybe you ought to follow more people, did you know you can easily check other people's feeds. for instance: peakd.com/@acidyo/feed
Ohhhh ok i will try
The value of posting on hive is about communicating but as most projects are using discord chat rooms and if the group utilizes the threaded discussion function they are able to post and have a conversation without being in a chat room with multiple other ongoing conversations. Hive blogging needs to be improved so that each community has a forum
i am new to hive
building a community is important to me first so i try to connect with everyone
income is also important to me but right now my income is so low that i don't think about it much my goal is for my photos to be seen and my content to be read
i've done this before on similar sites but it was very difficult at first
for example i have 16000 followers on twitter now but when i started in 2020 i had no followers and i didn't really know how to attract followers
I used to
Post every day
Ain’t got time for that, busy just
Busy.
But I want to post, just posting if I earn, thank you.
I wish I can post daily.
Hive is becoming older and it is mature
Now if you have been around a while back.
Got to say I enjoyed it and consistency can help.
I do my five days a week because I enjoy doing it. It's kind of therapeutic too! Of course the rewards are always nice, but I know they are fleeting and not guaranteed!
I post what I want to post, I do my best to write what I would want to upvote if I saw it in the wild, and leave it at that. Either it gets attention or it does not. At least I can always rely on my haters to spam pointless accusations against me in the comments where PeakD auto-mutes them.
I will post anyway as it's a habit now. I want some real engagement and the rewards are not so important. I use commentrewarder to share some out.
Back in the day I had posts that went over $100 and that was exciting. I did spend some, but have not taken any out in ages. Really I want to be able to use it within the Hive ecosphere, e.g. on Rising Star.
Of course for some people any rewards can be a big deal. I'm okay with them withdrawing the pay bills. Others can decide whether the posts have value.
It’s impossible to read your post, @acidyo, without pausing to reflect on the purest analogy that defines us: the beehive. It’s no coincidence that Hive’s logo is a honeycomb. When we observe how a bee colony functions in nature, we see a perfectly oiled machine where every member works tirelessly for the growth and development of the community.
The parallel between that natural image and what happens day in and day out on our blockchain is absolute. However, your question strikes a very realistic chord.
(Before continuing, I want to apologize if any phrases sound strange: English isn’t my native language, so I’m relying on https://www.deepl.com/es/translator to share this reflection with you.)
To think that absolutely everyone acts selflessly for the common good of the hive, without expecting anything in return, would be naive. It would be like asking a flower to make the effort to open its petals and offer its nectar without expecting pollination to occur; effort, by its very nature, seeks a reward, however small it may be.
The true art of Hive is not to eliminate the desire for reward, but to ensure that the pursuit of individual gain is so well designed that it inevitably ends up benefiting the collective.
We create content in search of value, but by doing so with quality, we add value to the network. We curate in search of a return, but by doing so conscientiously, we bring others’ talent to light.
Yes, we think about rewards, @acidyo. To deny it would be to go against human nature itself. But the beauty of this virtual hive is that, while we seek our own sustenance, we are building a great hive.
The rewards were my motive for joining the platform. I was seriously in need of a source of income then, and hearing about Hives was like an answer to my prayers. Then, I really don't know how to create a post, and I feel like anything will go. I did things wrongly, I was eager, and I thought everything would come as planned.
I quit Hives for some time then because I wasn't getting what I expected, but after some time, I realized I was missing something, I missed the good moments and the little interactions I had. So I came back, this time not too much interest in the rewards, because I'm used to those rewards, so I focus on real posts and more interaction. Though the rewards might be small, it never stopped me from making a post a day. Because of my urge, I made a lot of mistakes, like many, many.
So many truths in this post; I think this is the first time I’ve read your work and truly grasped your message. Personally, I try to write every day—for me, it’s an exercise, a healing therapy through words—and I also enjoy helping others who are pursuing their studies in Venezuela. It’s interesting how you clear up questions about where votes go if you don’t cast yours; as you say, others snap them up. You can clearly see fewer participants when the price drops. I love that Hive serves as a repository for my photos and stories over time. Keep supporting newcomers; we need fresh writing and ideas that inspire. Best regards.
