Men and Women of the Cave What's Your Favourite Tipple?

I don't drink as much as I used to. Part of the reason is due to age and the other reason is due to withdrawal from social life as I deal with my health issues. However, I do enjoy alcohol and I am looking forward to a time again when I can indulge not a bit but a lot. Yes I want to get totally pissed up so I can't even stand and I want to be so drunk that I forget everything I did on the night! Alcohol is not the evil that many would have us believe. Like with most things - everything in moderation.

As I say it's been a while since I've indulged but looking back to when I was 18 I recall a hip new trend that emerged in that era involving a new type of alcoholic drink, it was a drink that would spawn a whole new market - yes I'm talking about alcopops, remember them? They were once a huge thing in Britain and across the world. It all started with alcoholic lemonade and a brand called Hooch. I used to really enjoy them, they had a great balance between sour and sweet. They were the perfect compliment to casual drinking with mates if you didn't want a heavy one. I could never get drunk on them though, so I always questioned just how much alcohol was really in them!

After Hooch and another alcoholic lemonade brand called Two Dogs then came the almighty surge. Blackcurrent, orange, lime, strawberry, watermelon etc all produced by a plethora of companies. The list of flavours literally goes on and on. Then came alcoholic cola! Smirnoff Ice was pretty big as well for a while and lasted well into the noughties. But the trend seemed to disappear soon into the new century and by 2006 Magners was here! Yes we have since seen the cider trend, with an explosion of new types of cider to try. Personally my favourite tipple is Magners, but only in the summer. I don't know what it is but I rarely touch cider in the winter, but come summer I'm all over a Magners with ice. Yes please.

As far as other alcoholic beverages goes I do like a tinned San Miguel or a bottle of Bud or Becks - oh yes! Damn I could drink one of them right now. I also enjoy my wine. I am totally into wine and virtually every type of wine you can think of. My favourite grape has to be the Pinot Noir, but if it's wine I'll probably drink it no matter what type of variety it is. I really enjoy organic wines too, in the summer an organic Prosecco goes down very nicely. I know tons about wine, I find the whole culture around wine and wine making fascinating but I will leave that for another post. As for spirits rum, gin and vodka for me. I really wish I could do Whiskey and believe me I've tried but alas it's the spirit that continues to elude me. Damn!

I am quite partial to a German beer at the moment. Its Einsiedler Hell By Einsiedler Brauhaus. I developed a taste for German beers when my brother lived there many moons ago. Well he actually moved back there and currently lives in Munich. While I was there I was staying with a friend of his who was a brewmister in hofbrauhaus. He had a double garage stacked to the brim with various different brews which he got for free.

I am also quite partial to a San Miguel like yourself of a Bira Moretti if its on tap. We are lucky to have a lot of really high quality local beers here too in Waterford. One sticks out to me and that is the Metal Man Belgian amber. It packs a punch at 7.2% vol.

Infact lots of the Metal man beer is super tasty and you just cant beat an Equinox on a hot sunny day while sitting in a beer garden overlooking the sea! Heaven.

Hey @moonunit thanks for your very interesting comment. I hadn't gone into special craft ales and beers as it's a specialised area and not really my thing, but I do enjoy Beer festivals and I am trying to broaden my horizons with special craft ales. It's a very appealing area of the alcohol industry. I haven't heard of the Metal Man brand but I wouldn't certainly give it a go.

If you ever make it to the shout coast of Ireland I highly recommend stopping off in "on the waterfront" in Tramore, Co Waterford. Get yourself a pint of Metal man equinox , sit on the terrace and enjoy the world drifting on by!

Awesome, a beer post! but whats a Tipple?

My craft beer journey has been a fun one so far, last year I drank just over 100 different craft beers, and was able to log them on the untapped app 😆

my favourite type of beer would have to be New England IPA, unfiltered, hazy and juicy, low IBU, smooth and creamy mouthfeel. But today I'll mention my other favourite, fruited sours!

Here in Toronto we have a world class brewery called Bellwoods and they make the Jelly King, its their sour series and its juicy and carbonated and fairly sour.

Hi there and thanks for stopping by! A tipple? You're not familiar with the term? Substitute tipple for drink lol! That New England IPA sounds out of this world, I'm thirsty. I have never heard of Jelly King, it's an interesting name for a beer and it has some damn delicious taste sensations going on there, you're a lucky guy.
