September is almost coming to an end and so is this bird series! The bird here is the “Common Loon”. These birds are usually found near open bodies of water. They live up to 30 years. One thing I like about the bird is its peculiar white markings, and it’s extremely dark face, it makes the bird pretty fascinating!

I’m hoping to post daily for the remainder of this month, I’m really excited to see this series through!
PROCESS!
Materials: Winsor & Newton watercolor and brushes, Van Gogh watercolor, gaerstaecker brushes, Sinoart sketchbook
First thing was the sketch. I drew the bird before moving to draw my character
Next I painted the base colors of the bird. For me this was a ballsy move, because I wasn’t too sure if the reds and greens would show through when I painted the darker color later on, but thankfully, it worked out lol
I painted my next layer, waited for it to dry, then I painted the next one in. At first I intended on using the white of the paper as the white spots of the bird, but as I continued painting, I didn’t really liked the results, so I resolved to using a white paint over the darker color
I used a mix of cerulean blue and marine blue for the girl’s hair, after this, I added the finishing touches.
