A slice of watermelon

It's Day 6 for the "daily sketches" that I'm supposed to do and today I should draw "a slice of watermelon". I've not been doing daily sketches since things would always come up and would make me busy but also in general I'm just bad at keeping things in schedule. XD

I looked on the internet for some pics of watermelon and I found one here. I was planning on using graphite pencils like the previous days and also make it a rough sketch but I found the watermelon to have an interesting color so I figured I'll just use colored pencils this time.

I started with my usual lines and erased them a bit when I'm ready to use the colored pencils so they won't be as visible.

The easiest for me to do a transition nicely is so start with the lightest color you can find and slowly use a darker shade. With a nice colored pencil brand, you will be able to do some blending which will help a lot in your drawing.

What's nice about Prismacolor pencils is I can also use the white colored pencil to lighten some areas. You think white is useless huh? XD Though some parts I can't lighten that much anymore and kinda regret putting more colors there so it was harder to make it lighter.

For the final highlights I used a white pen.

It's nice to have these daily drawings to not feel like a chore that I have to do anymore and I like looking at the sketch pad being filled with random drawings and not just rot on the counter. :P

This whole drawing reminds me so much of the time someone stole my drawing on Reddit cos I used Prismacolor colored pencils in that too. It was a crazy and funny story and ignore my cringe face with the drawing to further prove and humiliate the plagiarist lol. It just proves the blockchain is a really good way to store data and prove things in the future. :P

Wow. That is a very realistic looking slice. The little shadows and highlights here and there really made a lot of difference. That is awesome.

Thank you! It does make a lot of difference. I learned through the years that adding even just a bit less (or more) shadows and highlights can make the drawing look off. So self control is pretty much important not to over shade or something ahhaha

Está increíble

Oh my goodness, it looks real 🤩

Wooow que hermoso quedo tu trabajo

Just by look it seems very easy to draw but I know that it's not an easy one at least for me. I feel sketching is difficult.
Another thing is it's looking realistic. I was deceived by watching the first picture thinking that it was the real one but I was wrong😅.

Believe me, when I saw the thumbnail I was thinking that it's real slice of watermelon. It is super realistic art.

It turned out better than I expected tbh. Thank you! :D

I thought to have the slice right away...

Well that's certainly a good thing. I don't know how these plagiarists think they wouldn't be figured out.
I love your art and I love how you make it seem simple like everyone can do it though you know it's definitely not like that. Hehe.

Yeah they think they can just get away from it. Oh everyone can do it for sure, just takes time to understand the colors and medium I would say. :D

Well an artist's hands remain an artist's hands but okay, if you say so.🙃

I wasn't born like this, nobody was... it took a lot of years for me to practice and I started drawing stick man like the rest of the population. xD

Then, I have hope then. I'll start from stick figures and then progress from there....

Why on sketching and just looking at it, I feel like it is so easy. But I know it's not especially on choosing the right color for them, I'm suck when it comes to color combination so I know I will also fail on this. But why it looks so easyyyyy 😭😭. The final result is so cool, I lab it (人 •͈ᴗ•͈)

Hehe I guess I was able to control the colored pencils properly and know which colors to use is so important. :D

How annoying it is when people steal each other's drawings. You can go and draw it yourself, right? There's no rule that everyone has to be good at it.

By the way, do you like this watermelon I drew yesterday 😂😂😂😂😂

It's easier to pretend and get the attention for a short while than to spend time drawing the actual thing.

You're so good at those, reminds me of the cheesecake slice from way back!

Yeah I remember that too🤣

This looks real and lovely too😊

It looks great, I really like the colors and it looks like it has some interesting reflections, great job!
