One by the river

in OCD5 years ago (edited)

Fantastic weather today and a good opportunity for a walk along the river and a brief escape from the Hive.

But first, can we please raise a glass to the many landlords across the world who run a public house in which there are zero public, and the beer garden looks something like the above. On a warm May afternoon such as today, this place, which sits right on the bank of the River Trent, would be enjoying a solid days trading. Not today though, as the UK is still under lockdown and only essential businesses remain open.

The government is currently paying 80% of my wage and I'm basically on holiday. With the lack of businesses open, inability to see friends or my daughter, or get on a plane and fly away, it doesn't really feel like a vacation though.

And during the past three weeks it's been tough, especially on the cloudy/rainy/cold days, to get away from the screen and the goings on here. Which is why I desperately need days like this to walk around comfortably in just a T-shirt and soak up some of that essential vitamin D.

Should of invested in padlocks 10 years ago.

Not a cloud in the sky today and owning/living on a boat appeals, until it gets chilly again and craps it down for 3 months. Must be sweet though, mooring up wherever you please and enjoying a new view each day.

We now interrupt this blog for 5 average photos of a Swan.

Almost got the whole swan in this one...

Is that a STEEM token I see sinking?

Trent Bridge looks a bit of a state at present as maintenance staff are taking advantage of these quiet times to presumably ensure the bridge is in good shape. The other main road bridge into the city was found earlier this year to be rusting and had to be closed for a week or so. This made Nottingham, according to TomTom, the most congested city in the world for a few days.

The owner of this boat clearly doesn't care to much about presentation....

IMG_E2336.JPG

but at least has a sense of humour....

Plenty of room here for oneself and a four pack. Tomorrow looks even warmer, I'm tempted to book a spot.

I liked the swan pics, he looks soooo fluffy!!

Um, this was strange, you said it is a 'board'? Does someone live in there?

The swans were showing off today, super fluffy!

Yes I'm pretty sure that is someone's home. On days like this, awesome!

Ahh gotchya, so board is a British word for boat then? Or houseboat?

Ahh, doh! Didn’t realise I put board, even though you told me In the first message! 😂🤦🏽‍♂️ Houseboat or Barge 😳, thanks!

AHHHH ok, I gets it now!

This makes me wanna go out on random walks again... Thanks for sharing!

No time like the present :)

That is very true. I guess I haven't really been able to think like that now with all this Covid-19 stuff, which is weird, as everything that happens is very present.

You guys have weird looking chickens.

The disguise doesn't fool me!

Still pretty cool that your chickens wear costumes.

The reason they keep their feet underwater..

image.png

That's not a chicken.

damn, they got me real good.

Sticks with the chicken premise, expands on the logic...Lol.

Mike drop comment.

A lovely post here Ash.
I didn't know that the sun could shine like this in the UK:)

Take care!

I am surprised myself, but the sun was certainly out today.

Thanks, same to you!

My wife worked in the UK for one year and my step daughter worked there for 7 years, so I have a good idea about the weather. Most South Africans moan about the weather there, as they are spoiled by the blazing African sun.

Take care Ash!

Most Brits moan about the weather too - they are just so many brighter places in the world!

Hahaha, oh yes, you've got that one right :)

Splendid swanning about!!

That pub looks bloody awesome, that is a place to get parked when this is over!

It's a decent sun-spot for sure. Dreaming of the days when I can get sloshed in someones garden!

You can't beat a good garden sloshing!!

Looks like a lovely day. Wierd, @dronegraphica was just telling me about the Trent t'other day.

You're right - it doesn't seem like a holiday. It doesn't to us, who took a year off work, and are still getting paid - this does NOT feel like a holiday. We pretend, but it sucks. Here's hoping for good news on Sunday.

I think it's the only river that flows north in the UK :o

Will they tell me I can get on a plane to Spain, on Sunday?

I'm sure Boris will be happy for you to, though everyone else will have to stay at home and be miserable.

We are lucky where we are - can't even imagine what it's like stuck in an apartment with 5 kids. Well, I can - it'd be awful. Hoping there will be some hope - can't believe it's been 7 weeks.

I hear from friends that even with a garden it's tough. Balancing work, trying to teach, and entertain sound pretty impossible.

Fingers crossed for Sunday, although I'm not expecting much.

I never thought that of the Trent! It does mostly flow north :) The Great Ouse flows north a fair bit, this discharges into The Wash and floods like a b*itch often on all that reclaimed land!

Maybe it's the mouth that is further North than the errr, beginning? :)

hey Asher, so you left Spain? Nice to get out! I can't wait until we are allowed to go out somewhere else besides supermarkets! Damn swan, looks like they don't understand the concept of posing for a pic!

Yes, last June :D

It seems things are slowly being relaxed, although I think it will be a long time before normality.

Almost a good shot of that swan huh!

The beauty that nature shares in this post are so deep. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful content @abh12345

Nice pictures, great weather! I was here just days before the lockdown struck

@riverflows mentioned you were discussing the Trent :)

Are you from nearby, or were just passing through? Sorry if we have discussed this before!

Ahh, well I am a hydrologist, so have these nerdy inclinations! I am in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, but I was visiting a customer just over the road from Trent Bridge :) It had been a long time since i'd been to Nottingham and look forward to properly visiting it sometime!

Ahh, nice :)

Nottingham, like most places in the UK, does look reasonable with a bit of sunshine. Hopefully you've got decent weather over to the East this weekend.

That's such an amazing place to take a break from everything and relax! Hope I'll get to discover it by myself too, one day! :)

It certainly cheers me up :) Thanks for stopping by!

Sees padlocks left by romantic couples, sees business opportunity. Lol

I don't know how you felt after your walk but I'll take a guess that you felt somewhat better. Faith and I do lot's of this and it's always refreshing, clears out the dust so to speak, and leaves us feeling a little lighter. I hope you felt similar.

A bit sad but it is what came to mind when reviewing the photo and thinking of something to write :)

Thanks Galen, I did feel much better and will do similar today if the weather matches the forecast.

Get after it mate, the outdoors. Get some sun, people-watch (if they're around) and just be free!...Then get back to that computer as hive needs ya!

We put a padlock on the bridge next to Notre Dame in Paris...We know they cut them off, but we can say we did it at least. I bought a really good one too, had it engraved...G-dog and Faith. So cute. Lol.

Will do :)

I heard they had to cut them off many bridges over concerns with the additional weight!?

Yes, it is a weight issue. We have one here where people used to lock padlocks. They ended up putting a sculpture next to the bridge to take the padlocks rather than the bridge. I can't recall the weight they said they took off the one near Notre Dame each year but it was a lot!

Bloody tourists.

Probably too late to invest in heart-shaped padlocks then. I wonder what else could moon in the near future....

Moon...Did you say moon! I wonder what I'd like to moon...Soon.

That's a lot of water, I don't like water.

I'm not a fan of scat.

Supposedly, Finland will open up the small restaurants and bars at the start of June - probably in time for the summer rains :D

heh :)

That sounds months ahead of us, I think we have the highest death toll in Europe.

i was lost in the pics they were so amazing what a nice day !

What beautiful pictures!
