RC Delegations!

in OCD2 years ago

Now of course they have been live ever since the hardfork occurred, but thanks to @peakd and other tools they are easier accessible to most end users now.

Are you someone who has a lot of RC and can't find what to do with it? Maybe you've claimed some account credits but aren't really using them and are aware they aren't transferable, then here's where your RC would be put to good use!

If you go to your wallet page and click on the magnifying glass you can view your active RC delegations, clicking on "Delegate" you can now also directly delegate RC to an account of your choice.

image.png

As you can see in the image above, I delegated my RC to @ocdb, which instantly allowed it to start claiming more accounts due to having more RC left over and the bot likes to keep it hovering at a certain percentage.

image.png

What does @ocdb do with the RC and claimed accounts?

For the longest time now it has been offering them for free to @hiveonboard. Although it is close to impossible to completely eliminate account creation abuse, we believe hiveonboard has done a good job at mitigating it through SMS verification and only allowing certain referrers who've proven themselves access to create invite links that bypass SMS verification.

There are many projects using @hiveonboard for account creation and lately we've also seen many users on hive refer new users through it as well. Some of the projects are @peakd and @liketu just to name a few.

How do we know this?

Well, when ocdb creates an account for @hiveonboard, hiveonboard places default beneficiaries on the account given to 1. The service itself (hiveonboard) 1%, 2, The issuer of the account ticket (@ocdb) and 3, the referrer which usually applies either to an account directly who used their Hiveonboard referral link or a front-end itself that a new user clicked through to sign up for an account and was sent to Hiveonboard which usually is 3%.

image.png

Notice the json_metadata at the end. Keep in mind that these beneficiaries are not "written in stone" even though they are written in blocks, they can be removed by the owner of the account or simply using a front-end that has its own beneficiaries it places on accounts posting through it. Usually new users aren't too bothered by it and it hasn't seemed like an issue in the past that has been brought up, so for a lot of projects and referrers it's a nice little bonus for having brought them on, possibly helped guide them through the beginning of their Hive journey, until they eventually remove it.

Why delegate HP or RC to @ocdb?

We are one of the possibly only curation projects who aside from taking a very small fee from delegators also send them rewards that occur from projects such as @reward.app or these beneficiaries in question from accounts we create. You can imagine that if enough accounts are created who turn out to be genuine users who become and stay active, keep their beneficiaries up for a short time, it wouldn't take too much for those rewards to add up to surpass the normal limits of curation returns towards delegators. This part is of course a bit speculative and so far we haven't seen all that big rewards coming through this way, nor do we encourage users to send beneficiaries to use in any way shape or form through extra curation or perks within our project, but we think it's a nice added bonus for those who don't mind to reward back to our delegators for supporting manual vetted curation.

If you are someone who uses your HP consistently and wants to continue doing so, then delegating RC in itself to us means that we'll be able to continue offering free accounts to SMS checked users as Hiveonboard is one of the options people see when they try to sign up for a Hive account on Hive.io:

image.png

Either way, figured I'd make this post since RC delegations are new and many may probably sit at 100% for longer not doing much with it or needing the excess RC they have due to their HP. So @ocdb could be a good choice until you may find something better to do with it down the line. :)

We'll also make sure to update if anything changes from our end with how we are using our account credits.

Thanks for reading! Feel free to ask if there is anything you're wondering about!

If you didn't share, I would've never known about the Rc delegation option.

Glad you shared.

Here's mine :) Hope this small amount will help a little.

Nice fast info about RC delegations.
Delegated 10b RC as I'm still learning too about how it works first.

delegated approx 10% to ocdb.

not sure how much i need but i think i can spread out at least 50% to several projects.

Sounds like a plan, even though costs have gone up a lot unless you doing custom json transactions I doubt regular stakeholders will find themselves in need of much RC.

Cheers!

i was mostly on 100% so this option is a nice way to help out some projects.

Nice was waiting for this post! Delegated about 15% to OCDB, because I used my RCs, and will delegate more once it is recharged.

I decided to delegate some RC to @ocdb since I never use it a lot.

At least this way I will help the community somehow.

Cheers!

It is a pleasure to help.

Just saw this RC like 15 mins before I read the post. And legit this is what I've been waiting for😂.
Delegated approx 50% to @ocdb , y'all be doing a great job.🤗

Awesome. I haven't been using it to claim accounts for a while so just delegated most of @hivegc RC to @ocdb.

Awesome, thanks!

I never really looked how much RC different actions costs. How much is a good RC amount to give to a new user with 0 HP help him to start?

I think 1 HP equals 1million RC, so probably around 100 million RC should be enough to get going. The great thing now is that you won't need to sacrifice any returns from your Hive power doing so.

Glad you wrote this post, otherwise my RC would have been just sitting stale. It's cool to see that @peakd made this an option so quickly.. They ROCK!

I have about 50 trillion for ya. I'll shoot the delegation over now. I think this is a great step in making the chain more easily accessible and get this thing growing! Cheers!😁

Cheers, we're definitely looking into making it easier for our lovesniper project to delegate RC's further towards genuine looking newcomers along with the curation and guidance we do through it.

I think it's good that RC can be delegated for objectives such as this account creation for new users who are willing to work with the platform.

There I delegated RC also to the @ocdb account, I hope it will be useful.

Screenshot_20221015-142241.png

I agree, it's going to be a great tool to avoid all the "I've run out of RC, what do I do?" questions and possible many other scenario's in the near future as well. Cheers!

Man, I definitely have checked the fuck out on updates around Hive. I had no idea what RC was before this post, didn't even know we had something like that on each account. All I know is more HP = Good. TIL, yo.

That's the beauty of Hive I guess, regular authors and consumers don't need to know much about everything about it and how it works to know it just works for them. :)

Great information, so if I delegate my RC what do I get as a reward.

As for HP delegation, do you pay daily or weekly?

And I'll consider delegating to Ocdb as I grow my HP and become more active.

No rewards directly for RC, other than knowing someone at some point in the future may have gotten a free Hive account they maybe use well thanks to you and grow the network. :)

We pay daily but first payout starts 7 days after you delegate and then also lasts 7 days longer after you undelegate to make it fair for delegators since curation rewards usually take 7 days to pay out!

Oh, thank you for the headup, your explanation is an eye opener. Seems I ran into trouble then. I recently sent out several delegations and was waiting to get the daily rewards the next day but to no avail. So went back an undelete all (6 or 7 of them) at once after waiting almost 2 days. I don't know if that's the reason am having issues with my HP curation rewards 🤔 now.

Checked my curation on hivestats but its not giving me the right figures looks strange.

It takes 5 days for a delegation to be returned, so maybe that's the part you've missed in your calculations?

The delegation was returned in 5 days, but I noticed that my curation reward from upvotes are not accumulating as they used to be, unless hivestats is giving a false report.

Could be hivestats is a bit off after the hardfork and may need some tweaking, not sure!

I felt that should be the problem, though not completely convinced. This almost scared me because I really don't want to get into any troubles here.

Thank you for your time and all the help. I do appreciate your good work and the posh token initiative.

Missed those earnings though 😊 Been medically down for the past 2 months can't focus on content writing now, but will be back soon. Do have a wonderful weekend.

Just delegated some, I can also throw some RC to new account that's worthy over LS if I find some of them. Great option to have rather than delegating HP :D

Saw that announcement of Yours on Discord and came to know about it.

The only thing that I want PeakD to add on this is The Equivalent of RC to HP which will be quite easy to delegate or track.

What a good use they will make of this new feature. You are quite right in saying that new users see free account creation as the best option. I don't have much, but will contribute what I can. Regards.

This seems like a great idea. I'm always looking to help new users join Hive. I've delegated 25% of the RC in my account, 541b RC, to Ocdb. I hope this helps.

test !!

yeah it's really cool & it's been an awesome experience 😀

Okay... So.. Ive a question that ive wondered about a lot.... Am I allowed to have more than one account? Given that I dont abuse and all that...

Etc.. One account for whatever I do and sharing photography and the stuff I share regarding my technical and mechanical

And then another account where I share gaming related content? Or is this also considered abuse of account creation

It's not really abuse but also a bit unnecessary especially since communities do a good job at separating your posts. I think it's most likely better to focus on one account than splitting it up due to the activity of them and your followers maybe not realizing that it's yours or having to follow that one too, etc.

Only reason I could think of getting an alt is if you don't want to risk getting autovoters to lift you off of their voting lists if you post something they wouldn't want rewarded or less effort content, but even for that there's ways people can forfeit part of their post rewards now to send to @hive.fund or other non-profit projects for posts they deem shouldn't get as much rewards as your usual creations.

I see...

What would you suggest I do? Its just that I dont want someone to view my profile and be like..

"jeesus this guy doesn't know what he wants to share..."

That type of shit... Because I get this feeling that gaming should stick to gaming🤣... I dunno if. That makes sense... I dont want to be seen as spamming or some shit🙈

Or perhaps I should just not really care? And share what I want?
I just dont want people to unfollow me because lets say I have a follower base that likes to see the technical posts.. And now that I'm sharing gaming related content they might not like seeing that on their feed?

Eh, I share gaming, photos, food, fiction, whatever I feel like, haha. Share what you want! It's your blog. 🙂

On the flipside of that statement though, I just made a new account for actifit purposes because I really consider that low-effort and I don't want to tarnish my otherwise respectable page with such things. 🤣

I think im gna do just that🤔maybe it will be better afterall eyy👍 makes for a stronger account anyways eyy?

But your body will thank you @kaelci 😜

Yeah, but as someone who wants to use Actifit but at the same time -hates- seeing Actifit posts in my feed... I'm not going to subject my followers to that. New account just for that! Issue solved! 😜 By the looks of things, that's what you do too? 😁

Laugh the fuck out loud... Now that's a solid statement....

I do hate seeing them as well 😂😂

Absolutely I was resharing for sone time to harvest the upvotes I get through my main account but got some unfollows ppl complaining I lost track of my traditional topics of science. But I don't care or will justify my healthier lifestyle, @actifit is part of my sciencevienna ecosystem that's how it is

Laughs I want to vote your comment but I dont want you to waste your mana upvoting it too just so that i can scoop curation rewards 😂😂😂

It seemed a bit odd to me that I was able to delegate RC without entering my active key, something I need to do when delegating HP.

It's cause it's not consensus AFAIK, i.e. it also won't show a tx on hiveblocks of the delegated RC.

I'm glad you mentioned it won't show.
I sent RC to OCDB. Clicked 'continue' on the popup window and it just closed. The balance went down, but no evidence that anything happened. Wasn't sure it worked at all. I don't seem to have the same 'delegate' window on my PeakD to show it was alocated. And nothing on OCDB's end on hiveblocks.
Am I doing something wrong? Did it go to never never land? Or is this normal?
I was relieved to hear it won't show.

Read it somewhere probably from the core dev, that it only need the posting key.

It is only fair to help newcomers when we have the opportunity. I have not hesitated to delegate my unused RC share.

Thanks for this explanation! 🤗

Delegations can only be done through Peakd, right? I'm not finding an option for it on the regular Hive site.

Yeah for now, though I'm sure hive.blog will add it eventually as well!

I’m. Have to read through this a couple more time to figure out what’s going on but thanks for giving an explanation of what’s going on with the recourse credits and why to delegate them.

I’ve been thoroughly confused but it’s starting to come together now lol

38k hp, ughh new goal

I don't really have much RC to spare, but if it's to give support I will collaborate with what I can.

Thank you for the very clear and necessary explanation.

Very good information, but unfortunately for now my hp and rc are not even enough for myself😅

I have to work hard to improve my hp first so that this goal can be achieved by me

I guess this is also helpful to newbies who seem to struggle using the platform as they easily ran out of RC.
Thanks for the update.

Interesting explanation @acidyo

Thank you very much for all this important information

as a newcomer to hive, I still have a lot to learn, and I also don't understand about RC, for sure I really need the support of friends to develop 😀

Wow, this is a wonderful initiative and addition to the hive blockchain, although I am a newbie here and hoping to delegate some percentage of my RC when I grow my account in the near future. Thanks so much for this update.

Welcome! How did you find out about hive and especially @lovesniper?

Thanks for your welcome. Actually, I found out about hive when I was a steemian or a blogger on the steemit platform. And also, I just tagged loovesniper so my post can be reviewed by him. Please, if it is wrong to do so, kindly let me know so that I can take it off. Thanks

You think we will see a change in structure of Dlease to include RC?

Honestly dlease need a big overhaul cause the main reason people are paying premium prices to lease is cause they vote-trade with the leased HP on content no one cares about to consume. It's a win-win for leasers and leeses there but a big loss for the rest of stakeholders and content creators.

Maybe that's true, but I think we need a list of leasers and leeses, so we can choose, and with intergrated monetary system as we are used to (without middle man). Dlease would be the easiest solution because you would only include one special tab for RC and that's it.

Congratulations @acidyo! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain and have been rewarded with new badge(s):

You received more than 322000 HP as payout for your posts, comments and curation.
Your next payout target is 324000 HP.
The unit is Hive Power equivalent because post and comment rewards can be split into HP and HBD

You can view your badges on your board and compare yourself to others in the Ranking

Thank you very much for this information! I had been wanting to investigate more about what an RC delegation meant for a long time, with this post I understood it, and now I will make my delegation from HP to @ocdb.

Although, I still don't understand much about how the amount I delegate to my manual healings would affect me, can I ask you that question @acidyo? Would the profits I would obtain be much less? I have only made a small delegation to support a project, but I put a small amount out of fear, as I really didn't know how the amount I delegated would affect me.

I don't know how much of RC I will be needing to run my hive transaction per say but since my RC is always seating at 99% I have delegated 250 out of my 491 to ocdb for now.

I will monitor it and see if there is need to for me to add to it or subtract from it with time.
