Holiday Fun

in OCD4 years ago

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Had a lot of fun today for the American holiday. What did we do? Take a look below! It may not be what you think lol

Lopper

So it started yesterday when we were at the lake house. I bought this awesome set of garden shears but I guess they are called Loppers. Those things cut through tree branches the thickness of a cucumber like a knife through butter. It was incredible! Definitely worth the 11$ I spent on them lol

So what we’ve been really bad about doing is taking before pictures! I definitely did it this time. So the yard has been completely overgrown for the last 2 years. My wife’s uncle hasn’t had the best health to keep it up. I’m more than happy to do it all! I really love being outside and moving so you can’t get better than yard work for me, especially yard work when the yard ends in a lake!

So you can see there’s lots of trees, shrubs and just junk all over the place. In his defense, there is a land erosion problem in the winter. The ice melts and it just shears off the top layer of dirt and sand right down into the lake. The bricks and wood were attempts to stop it from doing that!

So this was after we went to town with the lopper and a pair of really sharp hand shears. We took that shit down! My wife did a great job at cutting the crap around the fences. The vines were threatening to rip the fences down they were pulling at it so hard it’s crazy. I definitely think Tarzan used these fucking vines they were that strong! Lol. The remaining trees are a tiny maple you probably can’t see (bottom right of the image) but the big 15 year old birch right in the middle is hard to miss. Her uncles got a thing for trees so he wants to keep these ones since they aren’t a dime a dozen like the oaks and pines. Not a big deal so we just freshened it up a bit and gave it a slight trim on the walkways. Those two pines on the right are coming down, hopefully tomorrow! They are threatening the roof with the sap and limbs so we are going to try our best to cut as much as we can with the pole saw.

We have 4 of those huge brush piles lol in different parts of the yard. We are waiting for them to dry out then comes the fun with a miniature wood chipper! Obviously safe fun but still fun!

We are really happy with how the lake front section is coming out. We still need to rip up the grass all over the place and put fresh sand down but one step at a time. We can at least sit on the Adirondack chairs without seeing little bushes being annoying lol

That whole section was covered in oak trees and little pine trees trying to sprout up. There were a couple year old oaks that were already 7 feet tall! The lopper made quick work of all of it.

All of this was covered in baby oaks and pines and about 200 pounds of wet, dead pine needles. We trimmed the hell out of the pine to make it walkable. You would have to fight down this off path before and block your face from getting hit with a vine on one side and pine branches on the other. Not anymore! Cleaned up, massive pile of needles in the background lol

After 4 hours of cleaning it was tine for some much needed relaxation. The little one went swimming with @ssiena and I hung out with her uncle helping him grill and just shoot the shit. He’s a talkative guy, especially when you pass the sniff test of his 15 year old hound-chihuahua mix. Then he knows you’re good people!

So in the awesome brush cleaning of the pine tree, I discovered this little gem! Does anyone know what animal this may be from? We can’t figure it out. It’s got teeth but what’s throwing us off completely is the huge fang in the front! That’s one part of the jaw so we can assume it’s got 4 of these layouts. It doesn’t look like something a chipmunk has, or a squirrel but it’s too small to be a coyote or something. It’s about the size of a 6x2 LEGO block. (I think Galen and the LEGO folks would know exactly the size lol!) So we are stumped as to what it is. I also was bummed I didn’t find a full skull or more pieces lol I slowly combed through all the other deadfall looking for it.

Only for looking at those pictures I want to spend some time there. It looks perfect for a peacefull day. 🤗

Thanks for stopping by to check it out! It is a beautiful place. We are slowly cleaning it up so we can enjoy it and relax. Most of the yard has the big stuff removed now it’s the small stuff left.

The view on a nice day is remarkable indeed. It’s cool to watch the boats zip by and listening to our son splashing around in the water. Peaceful!

You're welcome.
I hope You finish it and you can continue enjoying that beautiful place. 🤗👍
