In psychology of colors, orange is used to exude warmth. In paintings, when I see an orange sky, I immediately feel like I’m being absorbed by the nostalgic feeling it creates. In real life, there’s something sad enveloping my heart when I’m greeted by the golden sun.
I really didn’t even realize it until I watched the Korean singer IU’s recent comeback song entitled “Eight.”
If this is how things are, I don't want to love anyone again
There are rumors that Eight is dedicated to IU’s industry friends Jonghyun of SHINee , Sulli of former girl group f(x), and Goo Hara of Kara who all passed away because of suicide. IU and her close friends are pretty well-known in Korea and even globally so the news of her friends’ deaths are shocking and really disheartening.
I will not talk about depression anymore as I'm afraid I might say something fatally wrong. All I can say is that I can only imagine how it feels to lose a friend and I cried like a kid when I heard the song. I can only imagine how IU feels until now. The song and the music video feel like a fairytale with a sad backstory. The shots, digital animation, lyrics, beat, melody, Suga's rapping, and IU's angelic voice are all in harmony.

Eight, as others suggest, is like a play on the symbol of infinity. IU's friends may have left this world earlier but they will forever be in her memory and she keeps them in her safe space. In that island, they will never grow old and they will never be sad.
I've seen that drawing before and I am not sure if this bears any meaning, but I only just noticed the plants on the rights side. While the trees on the left were stood sturdily, the right ones were broken. :(
