Pillars of the Shonen Jump: Bleach

in OCD4 years ago (edited)

Bleach was a manga/anime that I liked very much, so much that at some point, I came to like it much more than Naruto, who was my favorite manga/anime, but Bleach took Naruto's place, when the latter started his last saga (which I already talked about in a previous post and mentioned why my dislike of the "Great Ninja War" saga. However, even though Bleach became my favorite manga, little by little I got bored and disappointed with the path I was taking, until its disappointing and hurried end.

My first contact with Bleach was with its adaptation to the anime and it automatically called my attention a lot, the whole topic of spirits and a spiritual society that takes care of eliminating souls that have been corrupted (even though it is a topic already seen before, especially in Yū Yū Hakusho, from which the creator of Bleach, took inspiration), it was the way in which the facts of this work passed that made me like it more, but without any doubt, What attracted me the most in this play was their power system, because like all good Shonen, they are characterized by having some kind of fighting system because it governs their universe, and in the case of Bleach, they use swords that being connected with the soul of the bearer, these weapons are transformed and give their bearer different types of powers, and throughout the history of this manga, swords with quite original and unique powers in their style will appear.

Bleach is a manga created by Tite Kubo and it tells us the story of Ichigo Kurosaki a "human" (let's say for now human, since at the end of the manga we discover that this character is a mixture of different races, even "Saiyan" xD) who from a very young age is able to see spirits, however, despite having this rare ability, he spends his daily life as one more person, able to live with these entities in the most normal way possible. But one day he meets the person who would change his life completely, Rukia Kuchiki (co-star of the manga), who is part of the organization that is in charge of eliminating those spirits that have been corrupted and also sending those souls that have not yet been corrupted to "the beyond", this organization is called "Soul Society" and the "people" who are in charge of this work are known as "Shinigamis".

The first meeting between Ichigo and Rukia was something that was already prepared by a person in the shadows, because after their meeting, one of these corrupted souls, known as Hollows, attacks Ichigo's home, putting his family in danger of death. Rukia sets out to fight the Hollow, but it is too strong for her and when the creature was about to attack Ichigo, she sets out to defend it using her own body as a shield. Being completely wounded and unwilling to continue fighting, she offers Ichigo her powers to defeat the Hollow so he can save his family, without hesitation at any time, Ichigo accepts the deal and gets the powers of a Shinigami (or rather, awakens the powers of the Shinigami that were inside), defeats the Hollow and from this moment the adventures and tragedies of this manga begin.

I must say that since the first chapter Bleach had all my attention, throughout the one of each episode I liked more, since it was an anime that had everything, action, good fights, comedy, but above all excellent music, since the Bleach anime was characterized by an excellent soundtrack, composed of different musical genres, including Spanish music, which is used in a saga some chapters later. I saw the first Bleach sagas in their adaptation to the anime, after the fight with the "maximum villain" of this series was that I went to read the manga and after that last "good saga", the Bleach manga fell a lot. It no longer had the main villain and therefore one of the best characters of the series and that made Bleach start to lose popularity little by little in Shonen Jump. The penultimate saga, known as the "Fullbring" saga is based on the recovery of the powers of Ichigo, since after the events of the previous saga, he loses them, but this saga (Fullbring Saga), is too slow, presents completely forgettable characters and without any hint of charisma, besides that in almost 90% of the duration of this saga is not Rukia, co-star of Bleach and an important part of the history of this manga, were that and many other things that little by little Bleach was losing strength and popularity, so much so, that in the top that was made weekly in the Shonen Jump, this manga was always below, so eventually this manga would be pitifully cancelled.

But for surprise (or not so surprise), after finishing the Fullbring saga, another saga would be confirmed, but this time it would be the last saga, the one that would end the Bleach manga, this saga was called "The Bloody War of the 1000 years". And in spite of the disappointment that the previous saga had left me, this future saga revived my desire to read Bleach again, and although it started well, little by little those desires were extinguished, ending by a complete cancellation of one of the mangas that I had enjoyed more years ago. This last saga presented really good and quite promising characters, but the way they were introduced in the story was something totally meaningless, besides there were fights that lengthened them too much, lasting weeks, fights that even though visually were good, since one of the best characteristics of this manga is that the drawing was exceptional, however, besides lengthening some fights, many of the things happened by mere convenience of the plot and left the logic that this manga had raised to the ground.

All these factors were what made the Shonen Jump, put pressure on Tite Kubo to finish once and for all with Bleach, which due to this pressure and being always far below in the weekly top, made this manga have a hasty end, even secondary fights lasted longer than the final fight, and that was the death sentence of a manga that was considered as one of the pillars of the magazine.

As for the anime, it was also cancelled, since they didn't even adapt the last saga of the manga, since it ended up in the Fullbring saga, leaving even more of a void. Then years later a Live Action adaptation was made with a film, it adapts in a certain way the first saga, and although it is a rather "meh" film, so to speak, in the end I liked it quite a lot, and despite being an adaptation of a manga/anime in Live Action, I thought it was decent, taking into account that this type of adaptation in 99% of the cases are quite mediocre. In spite of its cancellation, both manga and anime, Bleach was still "alive" because then there were some novels that told certain events that occurred after the end of the manga, novels that despite not being written by Tite Kubo, these works were under his supervision and in addition he was in charge of the sketches of these novels. But, as a proof that Bleach was not dead yet, to the surprise and joy of everyone (me included), this year it was confirmed that they would adapt to anime the last saga of the manga, being this a totally unexpected surprise, a news that even though I didn't like at all how the events of this last saga ended, at least to be able to see in animation some of the fights that happened in this saga is something that moves me a lot.

Because something that Bleach has is what makes it quite unique is its drawing, Bleach is one of the manga with best drawing style, as far as scenarios Tite Kubo doesn't do such a spectacular job as other mangas, but instead in character design and dynamism in the fights it is quite unique, this being one of the best aspects of this manga. I am looking forward to the adaptation of the last Bleach saga and also to future confirmed projects of this cartoonist.

I've watched some episodes of this anime and it's pretty cool.

Yeah, is very cool, but, sadly, it slowly loses strength, yet it has many epic moments
