AFRICAN MUSIC: Stalemate by Fela Kuti

in OCD4 years ago

Acclaimed as the father of Afrobeat, Fela Kuti is one of the greatest musicians to have come out of Africa. Fela was no ordinary musician, he was an activist and prophet who believed that music, during his time, ought not to be for enjoyment but for revolution.

Although Fela was not too popular in the West during his lifetime, his music would receive global recognition after his death. Fela spoke to the African people; Fela spoke to the world; Fela spoke to himself. Fela was a Messiah in his own right.

In Stalemate, Fela mirrors the everyday life of Nigerians and the difficult choices they make in order to survive. He talks about the various defensive mechanisms and their adaptations for survival. Fela implies that one needs to be tactful to survive the many temptations that comes one's way on daily basis. I trust you'll find the song interesting.
