Spinach - How I started growing own food

in OCD4 years ago

There is a real satisfaction in eating vegetables grown at home. I know a lot of people like me who live in flats, so there are a lot of limitations in kitchen gardening. And even then, gardening with regular jobs and other activities is even more difficult. But there are some vegetables that we can put in the pot, which are great for less space on the balcony and window grill. One of them is 'Spinach'.

How to grow Spinach

It is very easy to grow spinach at home. Pick a flowerpot and place - to apply spinach, the flowerpot should be large enough to make it comfortable. Do not keep the pot in the sun's strong sunlight, as well as do not keep it near other plants. Spinach does not require much sunlight.

Spinach is a leafy vegetable that we can plant anytime of the year. Spinach seeds have to be sown (Spinach seeds are available at very low rates in nurseries / online nurseries). Sprouts appear in about four to five days. Once true leaves appear, we can harvest spinach anytime after that. It usually takes 30 to 40 days for the spinach to be ready. After first harvesting the spinach (leaves should be cut at the top. Do not remove from the roots) then spinach can be harvested 1-2 more times. Spray neem oil once a week.

When preparing soil for spinach, apply abundant amount of manure (e.g. cow dung, compost) and keep on fertilizing every 15 days. Water daily in summer. Water once in 1-2 days in rainy season and winter.

So, anytime of the year, without much care, we can enjoy it when we want to plant spinach from organic manure at home. The hand-picked spinach tastes really different.

True leaves

When seeds get sprouts, you see a small leaf (one or two) called Cotyledons. It is a part of the seed. After that, true leaves appear. That is to say, the exact but small size version of the future leaves of a plant that looks very different from the Cotyledons.

In natural manure, kitchen waste, cow dung or other fruits and leaves can be used. Harvesting - Spinach plants take 6 to 8 weeks to grow. If you want, you can pluck only the leaves from the pot or you can remove the entire plant with roots. Plants should be pruned before they can flower.

Why Spinach?

The properties found in spinach are not usually found in other vegetables. This is the reason why spinach is very useful from the health point of view, universal and inexpensive.

Spinach contains almost all the nutrients for physical development. Spinach is a super-food rich in minerals, vitamins and many other nutrients. Spinach is found in good amounts of vitamins A, C, E, K and B complex. Apart from this, manganese, carotene, iron, iodine, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, phosphorus and essential amino acids are also found in it.

People usually like to cook spinach as a vegetable or put it in a pancake, but if you want full benefit of spinach, then having spinach juice is the best option.
