The Hans Kudlich Lookout Tower (Czechia)

in OCD4 years ago

Hans Kudlich - the liberator of peasants. As a memorial to Kudlich, they built this now 22m tall lookout tower in his birthplace, Úvalno (Czechia). The structure was supposed to be financed by selling stuff like Kudlich's postcards and statuettes. Therefore it took long 13 years to accumulate the needed sum to start with the construction.

First drafts emerged early after 1900. The tower was finished in 1913. The main entry to the tower was rebuilt to a mausoleum later. In 1925, remains of Kudlich and his wife were put into an urn there. Das deutche Landvolk Feinem Befreir 1848 (From German rural people to their liberator 1848), is written on the urn. Later, a side entry with stairs was built. After 1945, the tower decayed. In 1980s, they were even considering pulling it down. Luckily, with help of many supporters, the tower was reconstructed and re-opened in 2000. It is now a cultural heritage. Enjoy a set of photos from my recent visit of this tower!

As a ticket to the tower, you get a nice postcard.
