Confession Of A Hive Addict — 9 Harmless Hive Habits I Picked Up

in OCD4 years ago

Dear Hivers,

Imagine promising yourself this:

“I will wake up, focus on my personal projects, and work till 6 PM. And then, when I am finally done — in the evening — I will log onto Hive.”

Finish work. Come to Hive. Plain and simple, right?

That was my promise. And it never worked.

Within few weeks, I started moving closer to Hive. Nights turned into mornings. Few minutes into several hours. And I got absolutely sucked in.

Hand-to-heart, I have been enjoying every single minute of it.

To put it simply:

I am a Hive addict.

That is why I thought it would be fun to share this post with all of you.

As a new addict, I wish to share some of my harmless habits I have picked up through Hive. Some of them are common. Some you can totally relate to. Perhaps they will even make you smile. Overall, these are fun things I do here.

And if you do them too? Then you are a Hive addict like me. (Let's party!)

Let’s get started:

1. Writing one — and feeling “great”

Ever felt a rush after hitting that “Publish” button?

Same here.

In fact, I promised to write two articles a day — yet publishing one leaves me super-happy.

This rush — sense of achievement — of writing one post — didn’t allow me to write the next one. This gave me enough time to…

2. Refresh notifications

Imagine walking into a restaurant with a plan and ordering something else? And then you turn around to see your friend looking at you with confusion?

Hive addicts are like that.

We start with one thing and end up with another.

For me, I don’t know why but there’s an unknown joy in refreshing notifications.

Perhaps the fact that I love looking at these:

  • “Xxx voted on your post”
  • “Replied to your post”
  • “Replied to your comment”

And the best of all:

Refreshing notification gives me a sense of joy — a small burst of excitement.

3. Checking my FAT wallet

A wise man once told me: Regularly checking your bank account doesn’t change the numbers.

Yet I have a special skill in doing that.

My mind constantly wants to see the number of Hive, Hive Power, and Hive dollars I have.

(It is very less, you know).

If you do it? Let me know why.

4. Compulsively checking stats

The blogger and engineer in me loves stats. And thanks to Peakd — I continue to check the analytics.

I check the stats. See the top most articles.

And then?

I go and read my own articles.

Ugh.

Self-obsession?

Well, I have written some good posts before, you know.

Like these:

5. Checking The "C"

What happens when you type “c” in your address bar?

CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap shows up?

Then you are an addict. Like me.

You see, I love checking the Hive's price.

In our small group, I told everyone that I was moving to Hive on the first week. Then they all saw the price. From 30 cents to 10 cents… to a dollar.

Moment it hit a dollar, these folks started appreciating my “prediction” skills. Since then, I have been visiting the "c" websites regularly.

6. Unlimited reading

Hive’s Trending page is gold. Like good friendship, it attracts you and makes you do things you would never normally do.

Moment I visit the trending page, I start reading one article, then the comments, and click on someone’s profile.

And you know what’s next?

In no time, I enter this zone of unlimited reading — spending good number of hours until I find something I can comment on.

7. Claiming 0.0xx rewards

The sound of rain. A good shower. Laying on your bed doing nothing.

All these are simple pleasures of life.

And now here’s another one:

To claim rewards — even if it is something like this:

I don’t know why but it is one of that habit that all of us enjoy doing it, isn’t it? A couple of cents added to our wallet makes us feel Elon Musk of the blockchain.

Massive achievement!

8. Hiving late night

Like Bitcoin’s volatility, my sleep schedule is all over the place. No one knows how the next day looks like.

Plus, we just completed 50 days of lockdown. And also 50 days of Hive. It has given me enough time to mess things up.

My sleep schedule used to be so different, you know. Hell, for the last 3 years, I have never done this.

And now? I am here enjoying my time till 3 am — 4 am — 5 am… and even 7 am.

Who here sleeps when the world awakes? Only Hive addicts.

9. I constantly upvote

This is one of my most favourite habit.

Even though I am a small player, I enjoy upvoting and giving my couple of cents to articles I enjoy reading the most.

It simply makes me feel good.

And the fact that we can do this has always amazed me.

If you think about it, for the first time both the publishers and commentators can get rewarded — almost instantly.

And that is why upvoting has been my favourite habit so far.

Which brings me to this:

From obsessively checking the notifications — wallets — and the Hive price… to pulling an all-nighter while browsing through profiles and blog posts.

This is what every Hive addict does.

On one hand, it almost feels like you have complete control over everything. You have access to everything. And you are part of this world.

And on the other, you act like an addict — enjoying every second moving from one page to another, engaging, connecting, and really having the time of your life.

If you do any of the above?

Then welcome to the "Hive addict club."

We are in this together. And hey, it is all fun!

So the question to you:

How many hours do you spend on Hive? Do you consider yourself a Hive addict? If yes, what’s that ONE thing that you do? Perhaps you browse a lot. Or check your notifications every morning? Whatever it is, let me know! Would love to read!

Cheers,
Sid

Congrats. Welcome to the club! It is 2 am there, isn't it? :P

Good times!

Where in Malaysia? :P

Confession of a hive developer:

Staying up till 3 am writing shit code that needs to be fixed in the morning

Damn.

When content creators and developers work on the same project from different angles...

You know we are both in love...

I've only been here a month and although I had a good time, something seemed to be not quite right. And it's just what you say in your post. I'm addicted to hive haha.

What I do most is what you mentioned in another of your posts "I'm in love with myself". I love my notifications, my blog and my tiny little wallet ... But hey, I'm trying to interact more and open up to other users and cumunities.

I also reply and upvote everything that I find interesting haha.

I really enjoy your posts and your way of writing them ❤️

pd: I was thinking of writing a post about my experience around here so far. Reading this inspired me much more. Let me know if I can take this post as a reference source.

Haha! Self-love is good!

Thank you!

And hey, welcome to the club! :D

I'm not sure if it is a good thing but I'm enjoying it haha.

I am hooked to HIVE and exchanges the whole day, at the same time I'm working also ;-)

Haha!

Work?

How do you do that?

What's your multitasking secret?

hehhehe, I have forged my spirit since few years ago

Hahahaha it's funny to read this because, earlier today, I told my hubby "You know, I feel when I scroll on Facebook or IG I'm loosing my time, but if I scroll forever in Hive I don't feel that way, it actually makes me feel very productive" 😅

I swear I do most of the things you mentioned above. And I'm basically new in here!!!

Include me in the circle. 😂
I'm guilty of all those you mentioned.

I think I'm feeling the addiction, too! Tell me doctor, do I need therapy? 😆

Great articles, by the way. It makes for a great read! Though I can't say it's healthy to HIVE late at night.

I do literally every single one of these and I am not ashamed for it either. I even find myself getting woke up by a dream sometimes and quickly replying to a comment I received while sleeping. Only to fall right back asleep shortly after. True dedication or is it addiction.

Too funny, I do some of these exact same things daily! I don't bother with CMC though, I stick with my homies over at Gecko!

I constantly check my wallet and claim the next bit of stake I've collected. Have to get those upvotes better so I can hook more people up with some love!

I have been really liking using BeeMe to look at my stats. PeakD does a good job but it doesn't give vote efficiency, which BeeMe does. My vote efficiency was pretty sweet when I checked it yesterday!

One thing I would recommend adding to your daily routine is to earn yourself another wicked easy crypto, Presearch coins, which I go over the benefits in the post. If you add Presearch to Brave (or Chrome, if you don't use Brave yet) you can have the plugin going already and just web search the things you want to use. I've incorporated it into my daily routine from checking everything normal and I've earned 1,280 tokens without purchasing any. Those should be worth a fair amount of money someday but being worth anything is great right now!
