Pretty incredible there are so few unique comment authors - I thought there'd be way more than 2000 a day.

Yeah, 2000 is nice for starters, although one could argue Hive didn't start with 0 bee's. I'm confident numbers will grow, especially if accounts are looking out for solid commentary.
