Some front ends have tried, but it requires manual curation too. I think it wouldn't be too hard. Busy.org used to for Steem, but it was suggesting people that firstly I wasn't interested in based on content and then, the majority of them were early users who earned highly, cashed out and were dead accounts.
The related articles would be a good filter to use some of the side real estate on desktop. I also think that suggested authors should be pushed, especially around niche content.
