Toward a smile or a frown

in OCD4 years ago

Has everyone calmed down yet?

It does seem that since the initial knee-jerk reactions that we have come to expect whenever something large happens on Steem, people are starting to settle the emotions and get back into thinking a little more clearly. The invested Steem community is nothing if not hot blooded.

This is a good thing in a social media as it generates interest and is very engaging, but it generally isn't conducive of rational thinking in most people. If anything, on the internet it is kind of like a digital mob mentality that is burning cars, throwing trashcans through storefronts and looting. Great for the news channels, not so great for the community.

Having said that, for those who are invested into Steem, it is these kinds of events which bring a large range of people together and open a lot of discussions. From these, people get to hear new views from people they may not interact with normally and perhaps build a better working model for themselves. While people think that endusers have it tough here on Steem, at the core level it can be very complicated technically, but even more so socially, as everyone has their view.

I have views too.

For me, I am more of a wait and see person in these kinds of situations and have largely removed myself from the initial conversations on the topic, as I have found that there is very little gain to be made with too much speculation in a room of emotional people. Sometimes it is better to get some distance and come back with a clear mind - and when a little wind has left the emotional sails in others.

I am not an overly emotional person in these kinds of situations myself, and while I do get those stomach ache feelings at the news, I see it as an indicator of emotional investment, not reality. While I emotionally invested into Steem and many of the people here, I see the community and the economics as somewhat separate entities, even though they are intimately entwined.

The markets being driven by sentiment is true, but this is the case of every decision we make in life as while we may not believe it, our emotions are the largest influence on our choices. It is why they say to not grocery shop hungry, as one is likely to overspend and make buying decisions based on the feeling of hunger, not what is actually needed. Emotions make us look for satisfaction to a craving and will input all kinds of things, even if the outcomes are not in our best interest.

I have been in enough relationships in my life that there is no going back on some of the things that could come out in an emotional outburst, even if it wasn't meant, even if one truly says sorry afterward. Words are spoken actions, and can often cause pains worse than a weapon. At least for some people. So, I tend to walk away.

There are two reasons for this. Firstly, walking away for a time gives me the chance to process and clear my thoughts so as to return stronger. Secondly, if I am emotional it is likely that the other party/s are emotional also, and I would rather take away the opportunity for them to progress into something that they can't take back. Sure, everyone can act as they please, but as mentioned, sometimes things can be said in the heat of the moment that are not well thought out and maybe not even believed.

Emotions can be wonderful and terrible. And it is likely due to the want for more of the wonderful, people do not spend time learning how to control their emotions, leaving the door open for the terrible. While I am not a psychologist, I think anyone spends any time observing people will see how damaging negative emotions can be on those concerned, circumstances and any knock-on effects that are born from that point. Of course, we are all human. Mistakes are made by us all. Something to remember the next time someone else makes a mistake.

Now, I do not know what is going to happen on Steem with the change in Steemit Inc ownership, but I do think that it is going to be okay. The thing is that while it is going to cause uncertainty and likely bring up a lot of new challenges in the short-term, it has the potential to be value generating in the long-term given that it could bring some stability to the development team at Steemit Inc to increase the speed and stability of releases, but also give those releases a marketing budget that extends beyond the borders of the Steem blockchain.

The other reason I believe it is going to be okay is because I am going to be okay, as is everyone else. No ones life should depend on Steem, and if it does, a person has much larger issues to deal with in their living processes. Steem is not a job unless one makes it, it s not a savior or a charity, it is not anyone's last chance in life.

Steem is still a social experiment that has the potential to marry community interaction directly to an economy that supports that community in a feedback loop, without middlemen. On Steem, there is governance, not governments, there are costs, not taxes. To participate, there should always be a level of give and take with those who only taking weeded out from the community.

Part of the problem of the world today, is that once we moved out of the tribal situations where one always had a role of reliance on others and the responsibility to provide support to others, it became easy to hide. It became easy to be reliant while being able to shirk the yoke of responsibility to be supportive.

Technology has further created the divide between the two and made many of us much colder socially and even fearful of socializing - even if what we crave is intimacy as humans. And, as said above, we can look to satisfy those cravings with unhealthy behaviors that are contrary to the betterment of our own future.

It seems many of us have fallen into the drama trap where we think emotional outburst is a sign of our passion without realizing that real passion is doing the work to find real solutions to our troubles. We end up caught in our habitual behavior, rather than being attentive to the results of our habits. While we can all say as I also do, to each their own, in a community situation, ones actions affect others in the group, and that will be met with reaction. The question is whether the reaction is going to generate a positive or a negative reaction.

A smile or a frown.

While I think that the Steem blockchain has the potential to approach and solve many of the community and social issues we face in the world, I also know that it is rarely going to be an easy journey as we approach it from so many angles and with so many agendas. However, perhaps if each of us goes in with a smile, we will find that regardless of our disagreements, there will be the space to collaborate and advance together.

No matter the circumstances, there is always space to smile.

I was a bit miffed yesterday, but have to say that 5 hours with the community this evening has settled me a bit.

Seems to me that mr Tron is pretty unaware of what he’s bought here, and is sensibly deciding to change nothing to begin with.

I am sure there will be more to come, but I feel that for me, staying away from the immediate reactions helps. I have them too of course, but I don't want to add to the energy of the whirlwind reactions too much.

Will be interesting to see what they decide to do with the stake. Airdropping to TRON would create a massive dump, but it would aid decentralization :)

As savvy as the man is to rack up 200m net worth, I really think he’s/Tron isn’t that for along in their thinking on the plan of approach.

Stake bought will very likely stay silent, and the Steemit inc team will deliver communities and SMT.

There was no mention of SE or Splinterlands, even though Tron users have been able to interact for a while there.

It’s a strong HODL for me (after a weeks PD) :)

and the Steemit inc team will deliver communities and SMT.

I really hope they start pushing on this and make it foolproof (so i can use it)

It’s a strong HODL for me (after a weeks PD) :)

Yep, I think there is going to be some volatility to come and I wouldn't mind taking part.

That’s my thinking really. I’ll probably suck at trading but the volatility is there for someone to do well!

I have been trade shy for a very long time.

We'll all u people being miffed is why i'm powering down and getting ready to exit eventually! Your first instincts were probably correct! lol cya!

bye

Seems to me that mr Tron is pretty unaware of what he’s bought here

Most people don't know what they're doing, it's no different here in crypto land. In fact, there might be even less people here who know considering the complicated nature of it.

Yep. I bet he's clueless on the amount of dried fruit coming his way if he plays his cards right :D

If Tron splits their newly-acquired stake, irreparable damage can be done.. to whatever community exists on said chain. If the community splits the chain to a new chain, and removes Steemit Inc from existence (or from majority ownership), then we have back our"free" and "original" Steem. Time will tell what our new Stake Overlords will decide.. but my bet is on Steem not being long for the cryptosphere.. at least not this version of it..

Very beautiful and informative post I agreed with you you are posting exactly what we must share or post right now after justin sun and steemit developments

Yes if some thing need time we must wait for right time I think we as steem community should wait for few days to get things clear don't be emotional right now nobody's life depends on #steem #Steemit and #justinsuntron or #tron we should wait and see but must have closer look on statements or developments by steemit and tron

Steem is a blockchain and a social experiment its needs time to develop or grow nobody's emotions should depends or move with steem 😅

There are hundreds of other things to do in life

But it's ok users invested there time and money in development of steemit dapp and steem blockchain its there right to get fare rewards in returns that's why they are emotionally attached with it because they used it daily

Every steem blockchain and steemit users wish steem blockchain should not be controlled and owned by anyone because its decentralize and open source that's why they like it or invested in it

If steem is going to controlled and censored by anyone its not good for steem community its lose for everyone I think steem and steemit should be develop and grow as it is going on from last 4 years almost everyone should be happy on steemit and steem or even tron blockchain

I think that if anyone comes in and really takes control and especially starts censoring, the revolt will be near instantaneous. There is a lot of potential here, but that can shift to somewhere else if needs be as there is also a type of loose philosophy looking for economic freedom, which includes resource control.

:)

Yeah, emotions is generally standing in the way of objectivity. At first when hearing the news of STINC and TRON, Justin and Ned, I felt emotional thinking a sad future for Steem. Especially when reading Tweets by Sun and Poloniex stating they would drive the transition of the Steem token to a native TRON based one.

Today I left the emotions behind me and started thinking objectively. This Sun guy achieved a LOT in just a decade! He is and has a large marketing machine. He has a big network of influential business people. He has lots of fiat money.

I think all these assets of Justin can be wonderful for Steem.

If used well, there is the chance that he and his resources could create just the hype that steem needs at the release of SMTs into a bull market run up. The adoption potential is enormous, and he would benefit massively on both the Tron and the Steem.

Absolutely!

I think Sun has to learn a little more about Steem and its communities. We need some proper business approach and Justin may just be the one who can give that. Voice launched yesterday as well, so time for Steem to speak up to the world and make sure it’ll not dry up due to other heavy funded social networking projects.

I don't think anyone on Steem heard what Voice had to say. :D

Ah @tarazkp! I think that remark is just Ruon. :D

Have you seen the new tweets this morning. Seems like either they have had some pre schedules tweets and posts they forgot about or the token swap is still a thing.

Yes I have, but I am not jumping t conclusions on them as it looks like they are also cut and pasted. I wonder how much confusion is from pieces being lost in translation.

Thats the feeling I got as well.

Lost in translation only lasts so long though.

I’m thinking the recent turn around for Steem constantly dropping might also have been because people associated with Tron started to buy Steem and thus help it to head up in price . They knew what was going to happen and bought at the rock bottom.

Of course there are many other aspects which could be the reason why Steem has increased in value recently, but overall, it’s fair to say that Tron has had some influence.

So having said that, I’m pretty happy, Steem has been way undervalued for too long, because we haven’t had the right people in charge of promotion. I hope they will change now :)

I reckon most of the increase has been the natural state of the market at the moment, though the last few day's steem volatility is based on tron news.

Looking forward to some future advancement in pride more toward the 5 dollar up marks :)

I got a smile on my face... ear to ear baby!! 😁

Enjoy it while it lasts sounds wrong ;D

But still, there is a lot to look forward to here.

The mythical Tw##ting beasts of SteemTronsters

Amazing what happens after a night sleep and some clear thinking. I think Justin has woken up to realising that he needs to get his head around what Steem is and how it works first. We all know that takes months even for the smart ones.
Hope the house stuff goes well tomorrow/today and Monday. Forgot it is late already and need to get to bed.

Yeah, I am guessing that every blockchain and the subsequent community is going to act as is own animal. :)

It seems many of us have fallen into the drama trap where we think emotional outburst is a sign of our passion without realizing that real passion is doing the work to find real solutions to our troubles.

Emotional outbursts are much easier and more immediately satisfying. Finding solutions is way too much hard work and no guarantee of reward/satisfaction after XD

Seriously though outbursts can clear everything out so that a solution can then be focused on, as long as the outburst didn't trigger everyone else to have opposing tantrums and escalate into world war x_x

Emotional outbursts are much easier and more immediately satisfying.

Yep. instant gratification is the name of the game these days.

Seriously though outbursts can clear everything out so that a solution can then be focused on, as long as the outburst didn't trigger everyone else to have opposing tantrums and escalate into world war x_x

Perhaps. But I still think that there is more potential damage than upside. All parties stepping away and clearing heads means part of the processing is already done and there is less chance for doubling down on inflicting pain.

Sometimes it is better to get some distance and come back with a clear mind - and when a little wind has left the emotional sails in others.

Oh yeah! we should do this in a similar fashion like those Cranky Gandalfs wrapped up in a pink dressing gown style. };)

Just wait a bit for my own post later on this matter.

Since it seems that nobody came to 'thoroughly' catch and understand the subliminal content in which I talked about this same issue in my last two posts. Hahaha

Be less subliminal :)
People generally don't have the time or patience to work out what is being said online, they like headlines.

Be less subliminal :)

Ah yes, I should be less subliminal indeed. But I guess I'm one of those wackos who rather love having more than 8 hours of sleep in a row than having to reply to a ton of silly comments in my posts. Hahahaha ;)

I enjoy replying to comments. Sleep is boring.

I know, I know mate. Believe me, very well I know. :)

If Sun is smart, then he can definitely gain by maintaining both separate and adding more glamor to steem, by advertising it more ( which he can easily do). It will be win win for everyone. The stake he bought would be increasing in price exponentially, so as we.

I think, now as a community, we should educate him because what I saw yesterday, he has absolutely no idea of steem echo system. So better try to educate him ?

Congratulations @tarazkp!
