Today, I arranged my schedule so that I'd have enough time to paint. I was thinking whether to paint the usual anime characters or try on painting landscapes again. I chose the latter. In this post, you're going to witness my painting of Kumano Kodo, a World Heritage Site situated in Japan.
I first heard about Kumano Kodo from my student who lives near the area. She told me interesting stories about it and when I looked at its picture, I fell in love. It has been on my list of places to visit in Japan someday. Since I haven't been there and I might not be there anytime soon, I decided to paint it instead. I used a reference picture for this painting, which you can see HERE.
Now, let's get started with the process!
First, I prepped my watercolor pad with some masking tape on the sides. I still have some leftover masking tapes from last time, so as you can see, part of them looks a bit dirty. hahaha
Next up is the draft or drawing some outline for the picture. Actually, I didn't really have to do this because I'm using acrylic paint which is relatively thick on the watercolor paper, so my draft would probably be covered, and it actually happened.
See? haha I didn't apply paint on the pagoda. I just put some water, so the I can still see the outline. All the other outlines were gone. lol This is my first time drawing a landscape after several years of not painting such subject, so please bear with me.
I didn't know what I was doing, to be honest. I wanted to give up halfway, but nahh! I just continued and see what I could do.
I saw it slowly taking form, so somehow it made me happy. I didn't really waste my supposed to be class time for this. But really, I miss painting, and now that I have the materials, I'm excited to make more!
When drawing the background and all the other elements of the picture, I was again at a lost. I don't know what to do and I'm too lazy to watch tutorials. So, I just played with it. I didn't have a lot of paintbrush choices, so I used some cotton bud and le might finger. Yes! It was a real mess!
And so I thought, this is just the first try. I have a lot of room for improvement, so I'll paint more landscapes to enhance my skill in the days to come! Then, I decided to remove the masking tape. It's my favorite part. Truly satisfying!
Lastly, I placed my username, date and signature. :) Whew... not bad. Even though the painting can use more improvements, but yeah... this is it for now.
*Look at my thumb! hahaha Yellow thumb? not green thumb? XD
Here's the final output.
I hope you enjoy this post! Thank you so much for checking it out. For now, I'll feast my eyes on this. In the future, I'll be there witnessing the actual thing! Dreams do come true, right? :) See you! ^^
