Someone might think that bus stops are all the same. That's not entirely true. While many bus stops are designed using a similar pattern, especially in cities, when you look further into the countryside, you'll discover that bus stops are incredibly diverse.
I can even imagine bus stops becoming a kind of collector's niche. Not that people would actually collect and transport the stops, but just like plane spotters photograph aircraft, train enthusiasts shoot locomotives, and someone else might photograph manhole covers, I can see people collecting bus stop photographs.
These bus stop photos aren't mine. For this article, I used the streetview service from https://mapy.com, operated by ©Seznam.cz, a.s. and ©Cyclomedia Technology B.V.
On the other hand, I've personally seen all these stops – either boarding or getting off at them, or at least passing by.
The first photo shows the most standard, typical bus stop in our region. A simple metal structure with glass panels. Functional and elegant.
The next photos feature brick bus stops, more typical of rural environments. Nové Dvory in the Lipník region and Horní Bečva in the Wallachia area.
We'll stay in Wallachia. This region is known for wooden cottages with wooden shingle roofs. This folk architecture is reflected in bus stop designs. These stops are on the road from Soláň to Velké Karlovice.
Some stops are well-maintained, but others, especially in remote areas, look quite desolate. This stop in Kudlov wouldn't appeal to me at all.
On the other hand, there are modern and elegant stops. For instance, this one on the road from Bystřice pod Hostýnem, heading towards the pilgrimage site Hostýn.
The previous stops could be considered standard. But we also have unusual stops - like in Brno on Loosova Street. The stop's design is based on an architectural proposal for the National Library in Prague. This design was ultimately not implemented, so it was used for a bus stop instead 😁.
And some stops have no shelter at all, just a pole with a schedule.
As I wrote earlier, bus stops here don't have to be boring - they are incredibly diverse. After all, there are over three thousand bus stops in the Czech Republic.
