I use this philosophy with my calculus students, I tell them that it is impossible for someone to pass the subject simply by sacrifices, because if they do not show me the minimum knowledge they cannot pass, on the contrary if there is someone who can show me that knowledge without much effort I cannot postpone it, the conclusion of the case is that what matters are the results.
