So if you been keeping up with the Kardashian, if you lost that's just my akwards way of saying if you have been keeping up with my blog.
You know I got 2 servers recently, It all started with a cheap R410 server I got, I was able to tame the beast and it has been doing useful work for awhile now, I have more or less not touched it much its just doing its own thing.
I installed the same headless ubuntu OS on this new T630 server I got a bit more recently, I have tried to get some next level shit going but had many stumbles on top of the boring technical stuff I got a RTX 3090 Graphics card I bought for local AI I got it installed on the OS and it works with ollama (lets you run local AI models on your computer available for windows and mac too threw and app you don't need to use command line if you don't want) outside of that it is a hassle, lots of other application not designed for a command line environment can be a hassle to get going, I was running local AI with pinokio on my older windows AI pc I gave my sister when I got the new server, it was all seamless I was able to install all the application without a hitch.
The experience was a total nightmare in this headless environment, you jump through extra hoops to get these things to work and then it doesn't always end up working either.
For instance I installed Wan2 there was extra hoops but I got it to work eventually, but here is the thing is lame, to start the application I have to type in a command, if it messes up and I need to reset it I need to type a command, if I am all done and want to shut it down I need to type a command... needless to say that is pretty lame.
There are a bunch of nerds that will try to say command line is the way, that is some BS gang there are some cases where command line can shine for some tasks however for others there is no way in hell... explain to me how you would do any sort of meaningful creation in a strictly command line interface even those nerds running a headless environment type commands to pull up a graphical interface to use some tool or app.
Here is the deal if I install ubnuntu desktop I still get the same control I would in the headless version just with a GUI on top (graphic user interface) it comes at the cost of some computing resources but we got a lot to go around in this machine.
For my use case I think it makes sense, if you have a farm of these servers then sure the desktop environment doesn't make sense, the resource usage for a GUI is minimal on most modern machines however if the GUI is not being used, and if you got a farm of them then those little bits of resources could add up.
So I am going to be starting fresh I did backup my fan scrip and the relay scrip that shares the AI server stats with my other server for it to feature on the local dash, I had it going for a while, usually shutting down and loosing the uptime streak hurts but in this case it is for the best and is not bad since it was not really doing much meaningful work and I think with this fresh start I will be able to gain ground much faster and will all be more worth while in the end, and I still have all the capabilities I had before.
That was the plan... but it seems I can't really get a linux with a GUI installed fresh on the server... good to know after messing with it.
So it looks like my options are to just go back to the headless setup and try to find something to slap on top that will do somewhat what I am after, for now I just shut her down
