Splinterlands Investment Experiment
A good friend, @deanlogic, I have since I started using Steemit and transition over to hive is collaborating with me by delegating to me his Splinterlands cards to play. I wanted to start fresh with an brand new account to track my journey as to how much I can earn through playing this game. With a new account I am required to purchase a spell book at $10 in order to earn rewards in battles. In return for Dean's help we are splitting the rewards 50/50. I will log my earnings at the end of each season, but if I have something interesting I will also post before the end of the season. Currently the end of this season is within five days and at end of season all active players at their respective ranks earn chest rewards. The chest rewards consists of either cards, DEC, potions or orbs.

The benefit though is I also have access to many level 1 Untamed summoners and monsters to play with and earn DEC and rewards. Further with Dean's delegated cards I should be able to accelerate my chances of earning. Just a brief summary Dean's deck is mostly beta level 3 summoners and a whole collection of mixed alpha and beta monsters. So off the bat I have a head start than to someone who just purchased a spell book.

Of the bat I am down 40.727 Hive in order to purchase the Spell book. In return however since I used a referral link I earned a free card in the LogicForce account.
The free card...

Very nice Untamed Eastwood summoner that is currently running at $0.86 for 1 bcx. So almost a 10% discount in purchasing the spell book and including the value of the card. (Note the Untamed card is randomly for new accounts that have referral. The random card could be worth up to $120! So if you have not started playing please try it out.)
First Matches
Here I go with some battles using mostly a level 3 set of summoners and a ton of gold foil cards mixed in with level 1 untamed monsters. From experience I am well aware that higher rating will allow me to earn more DEC and reward cards in daily quests. So current objective is to bull run my way from Bronze all the way to Gold before I complete the daily quest.
Since I have level 3 summoners and monsters its quite easy to move up the rating initially. However for those who have just a spellbook it will take some time. The goal for me here is to earn as much as possible with what I have and if I have the higher level cards accessible to me why not?

I was somewhat surprise that I got into a losing streak even before reaching 1,000 points in ranking. What a shocker since I been playing for over six months. But then again in many of the matches I got greedy and basically tried to fit as many gold foils in the match to earn more DEC rather than playing to win. After 13 battles I got my first full 1 DEC earned. Forgot how little beginners earn at the beginning.

After 46 battles and almost two hours of game play I was unable to get to silver rank prior to achieving my daily quest reward. Reason? By my fourth win I had a battle that I was force to only use the splinter that would allow me to complete the quest. I could have skip the battle for a lost but thinking if I threw in random gold foils maybe I could still lose. Well no and won. So at bronze level a completed quest I earn a meager 1 chest.
Here is what was in the chest.

Basically half the Dec I earned today.
To summarize I have now earned a total of 38.796 DEC and a level 1 untamed underwood summoner. Will keep followers and readers of my posts up to date on future progress. Thanks for reading!
