CHRONOTYPE & CIRCADIAN RHYTHMS

Chronotype is simply a big word for when do you like to be lazy and when do you like to be active. Not you in particular but your body system learning to manage itself from years of pattern orientation and upbringing.

This is a very strong component in our lives, we you understand this you will realize why some women will tell you, please don't visit us after 7pm, we are going to bed, but to you, the night is still young. You sleep around 3am when they would be awake and ready for the next day. People who life in lagos or have lived in lagos can testify.

This is also the reason why you will see some people doing their work very early in the morning and other people doing theirs at night. So when you call your tailor friend Nancy to check if she has finished your cloth by 8am,you are joking, because her body system is yet to wake up. But call her around 12pm that you are coming to collect your cloth and you will see her very active, she will finish sewing it in record time.

Chronotype is responsible for regulating your alertness and ability to focus, to feel alert and also to feel sleepy. No two person has exactly the same, they may be similar but never the same. There are factor like age, gene, location, and daylight hours that affect how yours work.

In Nigeria for example, it is quite difficult to expect someone to be productive in the farm in the hot heat of the afternoon during heat season.

Lion Chronotype
This stands for the early birds, from 4am, they are super active, getting things done within the blink of an eye, but by 7pm, they are useless to you, all they want to do then is sleep. Don't even invite them for vigil.

Bear Chronotype
These people are also early birds but they become active when the sun rises from 8am. By 4am they are still asleep. They are your typical office worker, 8am t 8pm is their active time, anything else, count them out.

Wolf Chronotyoe
These bad boys are night crawlers, they don't care how much you want to give them, they will see until 10am, wake up to eat ad do a few things like snails, sleep again if they can, but by 4pm, they are fully alert and will be awake till 4am the next day, doing everything they can. They are the best clubbers you will find, they will not even blink all through the night.

Dolphin Chronotype
Always alert, in the morning, you will find them working, afternoon, evening, even at night, any time you need them, they are always active. The only problem is when they sleep, don't disturb them cos they can sleep longer than anybody. They are our nurses, doctors, and those in high maintenance fields, our expatriates.
