Lithium ion batteries are the currently most used batteries in the world. Research lab of Samsung is working on Solid state of Batteries. This could revolutionize whole industry and future would look very different.
Many other big companies are also working on this idea. Samsung claims that this idea will be materialized in 2024 and its still in development phase. This can be a games changes for hybrid vehicles too and provide more mileage.
These new type of batteries have two times more energy density than normal batteries. These batteries will have charge cycle of 1000 times which is very competitive.
When finally developed, this technology will be more safer and durable option for batteries. It can work in more extreme weather conditions and consume less space because of higher density.
One thing which is currently focused in development of these batteries is cost, they are supposed to reduce down the overall cost of batteries. Samsung has currently claimed that it is still working on expensive prototype but I am sure that they will come up with more cost effective solution for this.
Probably our dream of free and renewable energy will materialize sooner than we expect and this will be a huge step forward to sustain our eco-system.
