HOW TO AVOID MAKING LIFE-ALTERING MISTAKES BASED ON OPINIONS OF OTHERS

The Choir Scandal That Never Happened

In a Headquarters of a very popular church in Nigeria, the financial secretary of the Choir was suspended after there was an anonymous report that she had been diverting some of the choir donations to her personal pocket.
The choir director who trusted the anonymous message suspended her at the weekly choir meeting without giving her a chance to say her own side of the story. Months later, when an audit is being carried out it was discovered that the shortage of funds were as a result of an accounting error made by the assistant treasurer.
It was later discovered that the anonymous report was sent by someone who is filled with so much envy and hate because she wasn't chosen to lead a new project and the financial secretary was chosen instead. The main aim of the wrong accusation is to damage the reputation of the Fin. Sec.

The Tenant and the Envious Neighbour

A young lady who lives in a one bedroom apartment suddenly received an eviction notice from her landlord who claimed he had got numerous complaints from other tenants that she hosts loud parties where alcohol and drugs were the order if the day which makes the environment unsuitable for kids and even adults.
This young lady was shocked when she got the notice because she was usually at work or busy studying. The landlord didn't even think it right to ask her about the accusations rather he rushed into taking his decision relying solely on the complaint of the neighbour.
Few weeks after she moved out, it came to light that the neighbour fabricated those lies just because she wanted the apartment for his friend and the only way he could achieve it is by painting her as a "moral-threatening neighbour".

The husband was visibly hurt and heartbroken which made him act angrily by accusing and refusing to do anything with the wife - doesn't talk, eat nor have sexual intercourse with the wife.
This made their long marriage begin to shake and developing issues which almost led to divorce. When the truth will be revealed the friend had been secretly developing feelings for the wife and she had rejected all his subtle advances. So, he decided to ruin her home because he was turned down.

It is very wrong to pass a judgement about a person, or anything based on the opinion of others. There are a thousand and one reasons why you must verify everything before you pass your judgement. There are people whose judgements about certain things are influenced by emotions and not fact. In our world today, marriages have been destroyed, businesses have been shut down, some products have been boycotted, some companies have been sidelined just because someone or a group of people painted them in a wrong image which was not verified.

It is a grave mistake to make crucial decisions based on the comments or opinions of others. It is important to verify and get your facts correctly before deciding on what you want to do or say about a particular subject matter. Many people are deceitful and they will want to involve everyone in their deceitful acts (either knowingly or unknowingly). It is that bad that if a person tell you that it is dark outside, you'd be on a safer side to step out to confirm for yourself. There could be a serious consequence or repercussions if you base your judgement on assumptions.

We view life using different mirrors because we are a reflection of our experience, personalities and so on. So, it is best to thoroughly investigate and verify in order to make better decisions.
