It is no news that the idea of cycling is no longer an exclusive boys' club. Women are increasingly joining the trend. However, despite this growing trend, female bikers still face challenges that can make the journey a bit stressful.

Overcoming stereotyped views is one of the most difficult challenges. Since cycling a bike is typically associated with men, female riders face bias. They may have their skills questioned, be treated more like passengers than competent riders, and even be discouraged from cycling at all. It can be discouraging and upsetting to feel neglected.

Another important challenge female bikers face is safety concerns. Due to physical stature in comparison to certain bikes and the higher chance of intimidation or attack, women are generally more vulnerable when riding. This may result in increased attentiveness, limiting the number of solo rides, or imposing route restrictions.

The bike community as a whole sometimes seems unfriendly. Many dealers cater primarily to male clients and have little awareness of the unique requirements of female riders. Similarly, women may find it challenging to fit in and feel at ease in riding communities and groups that are predominately made up of men.

Although women's riding equipment is becoming more widely available, it still lags behind men's selections. Women often have to choose between comfort and safety when trying to choose fashionable, well-fitting clothing that provides adequate protection. Also, bikes may not have been built with female bodies in mind, with seat heights and aesthetics that might be challenging for riders who are smaller in stature.

Aspiring female riders shouldn't be discouraged by these challenges. There are approaches to overcoming these challenges and making a name for yourself in the cycling community. Getting connected to online networks or women-only riding groups offers a sense of support and community.

So, as a female biker have you experienced any challenges yet? How did you overcome them?

You're mixing up cyclists and motorbike riders. Both are called bikers, but this community is about cyclists.
