Specially in the old days prior to the Internet, I think Canadians had an almost superstitious belief about Australia's dangers. It was likely fueled by this gentleman's popularity.

I did not catch that show when it came out, but it looks hilarious. I just saw a clip of him spearing a platypus. It truly seems genuine, so you Aussies can pretty much make up any yarn, and I'll believe it.

He lives in my town, as does his brother. We often see him swimming or having a coffee on the weekend and have a chat. Nice bloke.
