Curation is the way we keep the community going. There is this joy you feel deep within you after you have made your post and you came around to find people's appreciation of it by the virtue of their curation. It's a way of feeling appreciated and it goes both ways.
Most people get their posts curated by others but they hardly do the same for others. I know there are politics everywhere and I know most people only curate those they know as a sign of loyalty even if the quality they are dishing out isn't on par with what is expected. This is why I would always appreciate the DCC community, the Weekend Community, Sportstalk Social Community, BD Community, DreemPort, Writing Club, OCD and so many others that I can't even mention right now because they are all about quality and that's what curation should be about, not preference.
It's okay to curate your friend out of a sense of loyalty and especially when their means of survival depends on it but I would always either leave a comment or message them privately to tell them to improve the quality of their posts. I spoke with @opeyemioguns a few days ago and even yesterday on the importance of making quality posts as it's the only way to get curated. I am happy he took to it and he has been doing better ever since he joined the platform.
I am a huge fan of life, poetry and practical posts and these are the kinds of posts I would curate more if I happened to be a whale. I love seeing values and value should be exchanged for curation. If the value you are putting out doesn't tally with the quality of the post, then we are talking about robbing the system because many make a quality post and yet they get overlooked every time.
I have a lot of people here on Hive who I know through hard work and sweat produce the best of content. The list is endless and it is not because I have close relations with them, the truth is, I have not even gotten close to most of them. Just like they say, a goldfish cannot hide for long...when you consistently produce quality, it's only a matter of time, you will be noticed. Curation should be fair, thorough and based on quality.
A lot of people focus on the posts and I know people that focus only on quality comments too. As must as good posts are being rewarded, quality comments should be rewarded too and that's what I do. With my little Hive Power, I make sure I touch those who took time out to give quality comments on my posts. They didn't have to but they did and because they did, they should be rewarded.
The community can make the most of their curation exercise when they select based on quality and originality. I have seen one or two posts where the person spun articles, change a few words and tried to make them theirs. There should be a plagiarism check to determine the authenticity of each post. Curation is not easy, it's an exercise that requires due diligence where you have to determine whether a post is worth being rewarded or not.
Sometimes, curation is about helping people. What do I mean? It doesn't have to be only about checking the quality of posts but instructing people when we notice that their posts fall under the low-quality category. I've had my content in the writing community checked and someone out of genuineness and care told me to make sure I do text adjustment. I appreciated it. When we curate, we shouldn't just determine whether a post should be rewarded or not alone, we can also tell them what they need to do just in case their post falls under the kind we cannot curate. Curation is about making content creators better as the competition is always fierce.
I was handed the reigns to curate posts during Stach's days and I know how thorough we had to be when curating. Those I couldn't curate based on lack of effort, low quality, bad image sourcing or length, I constructively advise the user on what should be done and how to be better. I am doing the same with Serey Blog as I was delegated the responsibility of curating Sports posts.
To curate is to give exposure to posts that are undervalued but of great quality so they can get the attention they deserved just as @sportscurator said in a post. [Click Here]. I quote:

It's about giving exposure to content creators and yes, it can also be under a designated tag for easy access.

This is a very detailed post. I am also a believer of dropping comments as a way of curation. It's not enough to just drop votes and disappear, leaving a comment on what you enjoyed the post will serve as a motivation factor. Just as a lot of votes are encouraging to the writer, a lot of comments on the post can be twice as encouraging. I always look forward to comments on my post. It makes me feel appreciated that someone took their time to go through the post.

Indeed this is what keeps us growing ..but is rather unfortunate how we inter relate with ourselves here…sometimes is very pathetic to see your post not attracting any comments or upvotes..but just as you spelled it out,, a good post deserves to be curated …that is all decentralization is all about ..thank you for this

Yes, this happen to me.
A few days ago, I was sent a message from a friend saying to increase the word count. Then he advised me to use the local language if it is not fluent when writing in English.
That's lovely I just say. Yes, word count matters. Most people post just a minute or 2 minutes read but it won't get more attention except it's a poem.
