It's official, as I mentioned in my post yesterday, if I wanted to retire, I could do it right now with a full 30 years of service under my belt. It's funny I say "if I wanted to retire", because I mean who doesn't want to right? If I could retire doesn't really fit either though since I actually can, I just might not have a house to live in any longer if I did. It's true, I don't see myself going anywhere else anytime soon, but what this situation does offer me is a bit of freedom to explore other options. The good thing is, I still have a job and despite how things are changing in the world, I don't see that changing anytime soon.
This gives me the ability to be picky about opportunities that come my way, and if something doesn't feel quite right, I can simply pass and keep doing what I am doing. Honestly, it would have to be a pretty big deal for me to leave the comfort of my current position. You never know though!
In the meantime, I just keep showing up and doing what I do hoping that one day it actually makes a difference. Kind of like HIVE. It's hard to find things to get excited about in crypto these days. Despite that, there are still projects out there building because either they believe in what they are doing, or they are delusional enough to think their token will eventually moon. Hopefully it's the former, but I think we know that isn't always the case.
Sadly, HIVE doesn't get a free pass from being one of those tokens. So much potential, but also so much abuse, so many ideas, and so many opinions.

Historic HIVE Tracker
Speaking of potential, I think it was last week, I mentioned that I had started doing some AI coding. I used the Google AI studio and had it create an application that can pull historic data for an account showing what their HIVE Power was at specific points in time. I then had the system add in the value of HIVE at that point in time using the CoinGecko API. What that gives us is the "HIVE Power Historical Explorer" that you can access at this webpage:
https://historic-hive-vibe.vercel.app/
Thanks to @seattlea and a few other people for giving me the info I need to get this project published to Vercel and thus accessible to everyone. It's pretty impressive what AI can do. Of course, anyone that can type in a prompt can have AI come up with something like this, so I don't consider this to be anything special. In fact, it's really no different than me going to someone's wallet and posting the value like I am dropping some kind of knowledge bomb on everyone. That would be silly, the data is all public for anyone to access. Though I am proud of what I had AI create here, I know it is really nothing special.
What I really like about it is all the extra stuff that it added to the code that I didn't even ask for. Which I guess is a whole other can of worms if you want to go down that road. The fact that you can view different aspects of the chart like "MoM Change" "% Growth %", and stuff like that is pretty cool.
The one thing I don't understand is according to the CoinGecko API, somewhere around January of 2018 the HIVE price hit close to $7.27. I think what is happening is since HIVE didn't even exist yet then, it is using the STEEM price to fill in the flanks for my account since it started well before HIVE was even created.
If that's the case, it's pretty inuitive on the part of the AI right?

I'm actually hoping to do a bit more "coding" in the future, I just haven't figured out what I am going to do yet. It would be cool to create something that integrates HIVE Keychain and allows you to take actions on your account, but then that opens the door to possible security issues that I might not know how to fix. Right now just pulling static data from the chain is so much easier and less stressful.
Long term though, I really want to start learning more about AI so I am ready for the future. Perhaps that second career I was alluding to earlier in this post has something to do with AI?
The Pub
This is just a friendly reminder about The Pub Community on HIVE. It's an open forum for most any kind of post as long as you follow the rules. I have had to mute a few posts in the community since we were created because they obviously used AI to generate the posts. Despite my dalliance in AI lately, I will not tolerate that in the community. Sadly, it's getting more common and harder to detect, so who knows what the future will look like.
I also can't promise huge upvotes on your comment in The Pub. I haven't been able to get a curation group to start visiting it regularly, but if you do post in there, I usually try to give a small upvote with my personal account. Which means, as I grow, you grow. We are all in this somewhat sinking ship together, so we need to lift each other up when we can.
That's all I've got for you on this fine Friday. I hope you have an awesome weekend and maybe give The Pub a visit. We also have a Discord Server you can find here.

Great job on the coding! That's very cool!
@lordbutterfly got me thinking of services we could maybe offer that people would be willing to buy HIVE to use, so I'll have to do some brainstorming.

Thank you and good luck with that!
Congrats on the 30 years under the belt @bozz. All Hive needs is a spark. We should just market the blockchain as one big free database for projects and see where that gets us.
Thank you! I honestly think it's going to be something like that which really does it for us. Not a game or app. Who knows though.

Long term we wills see what Hive brings, this push seems to have lost momentum for now. All we can do is hope for the best!
AI is s great way to go, it's really the future, and having a knowledge base will help you in any second career since you can retire soon. You might even be able to build your own business running off of AI creating services? The sky is the limit!
Any big plans for the weekend? How about good bourbon?
It's supposed to rain all weekend, so not much chance of that. Taking our trailer to storage probably since we are done with that for the year. I picked up a couple bottles at Costco lately. Their Kirkland bourbon isn't half bad.
Very nice! I actually like the tool you built! And that is with just free tools imagine what you can do with a real AI subscription and after putting some serious hours into it...
Thanks! I'm out of ideas for now though. I can't think of anything I want to do or know.
That is the problem :) I guess we need to use our imagination to think up ideas that would add value to Hive Blockchain. The value of blockchains is partially determined by the number of active developers on the chain so having GitHub repositories that feature active Hive development is already helpful as we have so few active devs compared to the top chains...
It's hard. I think there is a creative aspect to it that I just don't seem to have. I think a lot of it is just me overthinking things too.
Well, I actually have the same problem :) I do have some creativity, but probably just not enough to come up with something really impactful for the chain.
I love the charts that you built, I think those are the best charts we have to view accounts over time even though we have many on Hive including mine. One thing I wonder about is your charts classifying me as an Orca :) I think other places classify me as a dolphin still :)
I am not sure about that. It is based on vests not actual HP right? It could be there is a bit of a bug there. I only added the dollar value as a secondary thought. I was more interested in seeing how my account has grown over the years. That steady line going up is a nice touch. The power down bangs were also something I added after the fact too.
I've been thinking about the movie Wargames lately. It seems a lot of very smart people find themselves in that position--with regard to AI--getting themselves (and us) in a in situation they don't know how to fix :)
Yeah, that is a good point. Actual developers have made mistakes themselves, so I shouldn't worry too much.
Firstly, congratulations on reaching the "If I want to, I can" retirement point! That does give a different perspective, even if it's not all black and white... 😃
Secondly, that tool you created is so cool! Okay, maybe it's not too much fun checking out current state of HivePower and the value, but it's nice to see historic values, and all those opportunities we had to cash out! 😂
As I'm obsessed with inflation and token supply, not sure if it would be possible to add the progression of HIVE token supply on the chart too?

Thank you! I'm sure it would if I knew what to ask the AI. This was more just for me so I could see how my account has grown over the past eight years. I think the fact that the line continues to steadily go up and to the right is a good indication of my commitment here.
I guess if some people made the right crypto investments they won't have to worry about retirement, as long as nothing crashes when they still hold it. I've not managed that so far :)
I know a few who got in at the right time and are set. I think it is going to be a pipe dream for me.
I guy I worked with had something like 20 bitcoin. I wonder if he's still holding.
Do you think the $7.27 might have been a AI mistake? AI is prone to errors often.
Coding with AI is ok for simple things but when it comes to security it's useless plus if it screws up who is going to know if they are not savvy with coding?
#justsaying 👍
It pulled it right from the CoinGecko API, so I am guessing the issue is probably there. It was also before HIVE even existed, so I think it might have been using the historic price of STEEM.
I think it's more lightly to be the AI. I'm just guessing here but it the variable is hive price it doesn't make sense that it would incorporate anything other than hive.
As steem was not defined in the query it wouldn't look for it. AI isn't that clever...yet.
AI is a misnomer as most of these models are basically llm's.
No one has cracked AI although they all claim it.
I don't disagree with you about AI, but I still think it might still be looking at the price of STEEM. The data point is from around Jan 1, 2018. The price of STEEM was $2.50 or so and then rose over $8 on Jan 3rd. It's not unbelievable to think the point it picked was somewhere in between at that $7 mark.
I agree it sounds plausible given the dates and prices around that time.
Maybe another variable was used by the program to lookup the data? Other than hive/steem?
Interesting project.
Yeah, I am really not sure. It's all a guess at this point I think.
Impressive and elegant! 👍👍
Thank you!
