Make Do

Yesterday, for some reason, both my scales started to go crazy. My kitchen scale started to oscillate so crazily, that I could hardly weigh my breakfast, I'm not saying, 1 - 2g is normal till it stabilizes, but yesterday it was 20g.

Before that, my bathroom scale started to show really crazy numbers, like 20kg and 15kg. My bathroom scale is like 5 years old I think, which would not be a problem, but this is precision instrument and no matter what you think, it won't last forever. Although later it came to its senses and it is showing my weight, I need to be realistic, so I thought let's see what is available these days and how much a new scale costs. It's my way to stay informed, but it can also be a trap, if you don't have some self control.

Obviously sky is the limit, when it comes to offers and you can get the best of the best, if you have the necessary funds. These days, with bioelectrical impedance analysis, there are scales providing all kinds of information, starting from body fat percentage, to visceral and subcutaneous fat, so you know everything you have to know, which is good, but is the scale going to lose weight for you? It won't. With or without the scale, you still have to do the job yourself.

Honestly, it made me smile and brought back some funny memories. Made me remember the people I met years ago, when I was part of a fitness group. My goal was to get some professional advice regarding running, as we had certified trainers and served me well, was able to avoid injuries, but we had all kinds of people in the group, including those who's goal was to show off. Posting a photo every day on the most popular platform, posing in the latest and most expensive outfit was way more important for them, than doing the job, like walking or running 5k, to lose weight.

I'm not saying, sometimes it's nice to have some gadgets to help you track your performance and progress, but will all the new shiny gadgets alone make you have a better progress? Nope.

Years ago, I used to watch The Biggest Loser series. I wasn't overweight and although there were a several things I did not agree with, it was really motivating and taught me a lot of things. The biggest lesson I learnt was how to get a healthy mindset about your journey.

One of the challenges the contestants had was being locked out of the gym for a week and they still had to lose weight to stay in the game. Obviously this was done in purpose, to teach them that gym is only an option and definitely not a must. You can use everything around you to train and exercise, you just have to use your head and see the opportunity. You can use the bench, a chair, water bottles, ropes, tires and so on, whatever you can get your hands on. I love those exercises. Those are not only helpful, but can also help you be more creative. Not being tied to a gym is a huge advantage as no matter where you are, you can still do your training.

It's funny how some people pretend to be serious about fitness, then you see them whining about their flet not having an elevator, not to mention those who drive to the track to run one lap, which is 400m. You can fool yourself by trying to show how hard you are working, but you can't fool the scale.

I'm going to buy a new scale, when this one gives up the ghost, but I made a deal with myself, to reach another milestone of my journey and then reward myself with a new scale, that is more complex.

Enjoy the food photos 😜

I like my Garmin watch because it gives me an idea of what my heart rate is. That's the main reason I bought it. I don't care as much about all the other stuff it tracks. I'm likely never going to be a proper runner.

We have three scales at home: one digital that we bought like a decade ago, another digital that my son bought for himself two years ago but now it is at our home and an old, analogue one. Sometimes, the three of them show different numbers so we don't know which one to trust. I tend to pick as the correct the one which shows the least kilograms 🤣

just kidding 😜

Yes, we do have to do our effort to prepare and eat healthy stuff, as much as it is possible. Not just because I know it is every time more difficult to lose the extra kg, but because of the health itself. And it also becomes a very enjoyable thing to do some research, make the menu and prepare the dishes; then I know I am doing a good thing (I hope hahaha)
