Traveling With Santa 🎅

Yesterday was the big day, or should I say, last night was the big night for this event.

Each year the municipality has a very special Christmas gift for the city. There's a Santa bus circulating starting from St. Nicolas day, till the end of the year. It's an initiative that has been going on for more than a decade now and I truly hope it's going to continue endlessly as it's a really joyful event, not only for kids but for adults as well.

Back when I was a kid, times were tough, we were lucky to be able to buy a Christmas tree and my parents were roaming around the city for days to be able to buy some Christmas candies and sweets to put into our Christmas gift bags.

Times have changed and today, with a little investment and a lot of good intention, you can do miracles for so many.

Each day, this bus is circulating on a different route between 5.30pm and end of shift, decorated like this. I can assure you, whoever spots the bus, stops for a minute to look at it.

The lucky ones get to ride it and for the second year, I was among them last night.

Yesterday was the first day of Christmas and when I got on the bus, it was so full there were no empty seats to sit on and I had to travel half a kilometer to get a free seat and be able to take some photos of the interior. Public transport is free on weekends, this is an incentive to park your car and go by bus and when the bus looks like this, you can't say no.

It wasn't just the Christmas decorations, there were some lights that were changing colors, that made the whole experience a lot of fun.

And there was Santa and Miss Santa, inspecting the bus at the end of the line.

Santa and Miss Santa were working together last night, waving to kids on the road and even handing out candies to kids in the front of the bus. You should have seen the reaction of those kids, seeing that not only Santa, but Miss Santa as well is waving to them and has a little surprise for them. It was priceless.

I know for a fact that many parents are taking their kids on a Santa bus ride on Christmas day, so someone at home can decorate the Christmas tree and get the presents ready.

As you can see, it doesn't take much to make kids happy this way. All it takes is a few boxes of Christmas decorations, a few lights and some Christmas themed stickers on the sides and you have a regular bus transformed into Christmas miracle. Oh, yes, give the driver and Santa hat, that costs $2 or less and pay a lady to wear a similar hat, ride the bus for a few hours in December and wave to the kids.

This wonderful event is part of the city's culture now and you should have seen how many people of all ages were riding the bus just for fun.

Can hardly wait for next year's ride 😂

Is there such a thing in your country? Would you like it to be?

I have never seen anything like this and I love it!!!! Here there are no decorated Christmas buses and I would love to have one especially for the children but for us adults too!!!

There is a Santa Claus and Santa Claus walking around the centre and the children take pictures with them... there is also a Grinch who makes me laugh!!!!

What a magical ride and you know I love magic, glad you enjoyed it!!!

I found out who Mrs. Father Christmas is!!!! She's here on Hive!

I'm surprised no one said they have such thing in their country and that's one of the reasons I wanted to write this post. I don't remember if it was last night or the year before, but I did a post then and so many people were amazed and happy.

I found out who Mrs. Father Christmas is!!!! She's here on Hive!

Lol, yes, now you know 🤣

If there was something like that here, I would go without hesitation!!!😍

Yes, I know... I discovered her.😆

I understand you as I'm also making sure not to miss the occasion. It's a lot of fun 😅

Do it again next year, don't miss it!

I won't 😎🎅🚍🚌

What a brilliant initiative, many years ago in my town, the round table charity would have during december to the 24th, a Santa sleigh touring the neighbourhood streets entertaining the residents and collecting food and toys and money to give to the less fortunate, we all looked forward to this happening kids and adults alike.

It all stopped maybe 20 years ago, why? because, it became a target for a couple of years from stone throwing chavs the parade was constantly attacked for no reason other than a lack of public discipline. The police overstretched and under funded did very little. The volunteers and I don't blame them lost the will to carry on.

Now everyone flocks to see the Coca-Cola lorry if it is anywhere near on its national tour. THAT says a lot about society.

What a shocking story! I don't understand people. They don't help, that's ok but obstructing those who want to do something good for others?

The good thing in my city is that there are cameras almost everywhere and you can't get away with such things. Last year the municipality set up the Christmas tree and that night some teenagers pissed on it, just for fun, then left. A few hours later police was knocking on their door and fined them with $1000. A harsh fine, but some people want to learn the hard way.

It is shocking that the police there did nothing 😐 and even more shocking to see how low some people can sink. Shame.

Yes we have cameras in the centre of the town, but not in the outlying districts an villages , that is a lot of money for taking a pis, love it they wont do that again in a hurry!

Sounds like a very fun and festive experience. It would be neat if there were more rides like this around the world in more towns.

It is a lot of fun indeed and I wish other public transport companies all over the world could do something similar.

Thank you @fernwehninja, happy holidays to you too 😊 🎄🎁🎅

Kida are easy to please and it is a simple thing to offer that can make a big difference. Very few people use public transport here so it would not catch on.

Your country is a different thing, and not in a good sense 😒
I bet many kids would enjoy a ride there too.

Back when I was a kid, times were tough, we were lucky to be able to buy a Christmas tree and my parents were roaming around the city for days to be able to buy some Christmas candies and sweets to put into our Christmas gift bags.

It's just a living testament that we are making progress. We are simply setting the bar higher.

In our country, free public transportation also happens often. Take note that it is "often," not daily or regularly. Most of the time, politicians use that tactic to advertise themselves. What a crocodile country to live in!

Public transportation is a good way to advertise but there's the right time for everything and nothing can beat Christmas.

Oh my, that was really great! What a very fantastic experience 😊.

You should have seen the kids when the bus arrived 🙂

That's so cool!!

It is indeed 🙂
