I'll Be There for You by The Remrandts

This song was played at the beginning of each episode of "Friends" series from 1994 till 2004, "I'll Be There for You" was a single track by an American Band called "The Remrandts" , The song is mostly known as the main theme of "Friends" TV Show.

This song was co-written by Friends producers "David Crane" , "Marta Kauffman and her husband, Michael Skloff (as composer) and Allee Willis (songwriter) and two members of the Rembrandts (Phil Sōlem and Danny Wilde).

The original soundtrack was only one minute long, when Charlie Quinn (Nashville program director) and Tom Peace (radio announcer and music director) broadcast a looped version of the original track on radio station WYHY. Its became so popular after being heard on the radio stations, They decided to ask The Remrandts to re-record it as a 3 minutes pop song.

The video features the band performing in a studio while the cast members of Friends join in.

In its music video you can see the performance of the band in a big studio while the cast of the Friends TV Show join in and they become part of the music video.

The song has a catchy melody which makes you never forget it, it is simple and at the same time beautiful, the song starts with that intro melody and then it changes to a Guitar/Bass riff playing along with the drums (I really enjoy listening to the bass line), the verse which is with 2 vocals as harmonies starts and we can also hear some great Drums fill in this song in 0:33 there is the chorus section which the lead guitar performs arpeggio and long sustain notes while the bass keeps playing some amazing bass riffs, the change in the second verse at minute 1 is so cool and I have to say I love the whole chord progression of this song, after the second chorus it goes to the bridge which it is full of heart I can feel it reminds me of memories from past and also I can feel some sadness in those melodies and it ends with a nice vocal harmonies and the solo part starts in that section and it gets back to the half part of the verse and with a longer drums fills it gets back to the ending chorus, there is some more lead guitar added to the ending chorus and the ending is with a shaker and 2 vocals harmony singing a long sustain note.

I really love the lyrics of this song and it makes me think about how we felt in the past and what we were using in those times which we are not using them in these years, old stuffs and the old mood of life style which it's changed today.

I hope you enjoyed listening to this song and reading this review,

Peace & Love!

We've all heard this song so many times. Did the band do much else?

The guitar sound is quite distinctive. Lots of Rickebackers in the video

I actually heard it when I was in college, so late, you know in this part of the world we did not know much about old artists or international artists, so by each years I find artists :D which I never heard them before, sometimes I find them from a movie soundtrack or a series or something like that, like how I find out about Nirvana, I was watching JarHead 2005 then I heard Something in the way in it and it makes me love that song and then I have found out Kurt Cobain was the vocalist of that song (then I listened to all Nirvana's albums till years ago). (when I was a kid we only had 5 TV channels which they were only showing Iran's programs and sometimes they had some foreign movies (censored and no music with vocals) still our TV is not playing anything with vocals but only Farsi songs and the ones that they choose) but from the time we had Internet I could find many many songs and movies and series, so this is why a song like Friends is just new to me :D I watched it when I was in college, I was downloading each seasons of it.

about this band and their new works I just searched and I have found 2 awesome songs:

This is called New King from 2020 (a live performance):

and this one is called how far would you go from 2019:

I have to write about these later :D

It's hard for me to imagine having such restricted access to music. I grew up with lots of music on the radio and TV, but there was no internet access back then for more obscure stuff. I have found so many bands through social media and podcasts. Kids now are spoiled by the choice they have.

Hi @davidfar!

One of the things that make this song special is an excellent musical arrangement accompanied by lyrics that let you see that despite the many bad moments in life there is a light at the end of the tunnel and this light is found in the people who have always been there by your side. We are a big fan of this song. Excellent review!
