Hello, dear Hivers!
We had originally scheduled the blessing for October 1. But before that day, a magnitude‑6.9 earthquake struck. For safety reasons, we decided to postpone. The building needed to be thoroughly inspected to make sure it was structurally safe. We wanted to do it right — not just for formality, but so everyone who uses this space can feel secure.
Today, after the inspection and after making sure everything is okay, we proceeded with the blessing. It felt like more than just a ceremony. It felt like a way of starting fresh, of stepping into this new chapter with gratitude, respect, and hope.
Why Blessings Matter for Us
For many of us Filipinos, blessings are more than rituals. They are expressions of faith, respect, community, and hope. Whenever we get something new — a home, a car, an office — or when we move to a new place, we pause, ask for guidance, peace, protection. It’s part of how we honor what’s bigger than ourselves.
Having a priest bless our space is a way to invite positive energy, to ask for protection from harm, and to set the tone for peace and harmony. It reminds us that while we build walls, install furniture, set up computers, there are also unseen forces that matter: safety, goodwill, relationships, respect.
What Happened Today
The blessing ceremony was simple but meaningful. The priest walked through every room, said prayers, sprinkled holy water, and blessed the doors, the windows, the desks, the meeting rooms. We all gathered — some of us reflecting quietly, some offering prayers, some simply listening.
It was more than just words. It felt like a promise: a promise to keep this place safe, to treat it with care, to work together well. It felt like acknowledging that this space is not just concrete, wires, chairs — it is shared dreams, collaboration, daily routines, hopes for the future.
Lessons from the Delay
That earthquake on October 1 was a reminder that no matter how much we plan, there are things outside our control. Safety is not negotiable. Postponing the blessing was hard — we wanted to get settled, to start work, to mark this new beginning. But postponing was the right decision. It showed we respect our environment, take responsibility, and care about each other.
Now that the gift of safety has been given — that the inspection confirmed the building is okay — the blessing today carries more weight. It is not just a ritual, but a grateful response to being able to gather safely in this new space.
What We Invite for the Future
As we begin to work in this office, here’s what we hope for and commit to:
That this office will be a place of peace. A place where people feel comfortable, respected, and safe.
That our work will be fruitful. That all our efforts, big and small, lead to good outcomes — growth, learning, success.
That relationships here will be kind, honest, and generous. We may have deadlines, challenges, disagreements — but may respect, compassion, and integrity guide all we do.
That even when we face storms — literal or metaphorical — we remember to lean on shared values: care for safety, faith in something beyond ourselves, unity.
That this blessing won’t just be for today. We want it to live in our daily actions: how we treat each other, how we maintain the space, how we respond when things go wrong or right.
Thank you to our priest who led the ceremony, prayed for us, asked for protection over this place.
May every day here remind us that we are not alone — that blessings, when asked for sincerely, carry both presence and responsibility.
