Good day Hivers! For today’s blog, I am going to share with you my office table. But this is not an ordinary office desk that you might think. As a work-from-home mom, aside from my working buddies—my laptop, pen and notebook (with a cup of coffee on the side), I need to have a dedicated working corner.
Working-from-home is actually advantageous because you can perform the tasks assigned to you without leaving your kids. It may also sound relaxing for some. But looking at the reality, it is a matter of balancing between your work, your chores, and your responsibility to your family. Aside from that, I also run a small neighborhood convenience store (“sari-sari” store) which adds up to my daily routine. Basically, I am wearing multiple hats everyday.
The good thing about my WFH job is that my working hours is flexible. So, I have the freedom to switch from one task to another. From doing the chores, managing our small store, attending to my kids’ (and fur baby) needs to meeting deadlines - all can be done with proper time management.
With all this, I actually don’t have a dedicated office table at home where I can sit during working hours. Typically, most work-from-home offices have artful and creative desk designs. But mine is not as cozy as theirs. My not so ordinary office table is anywhere which I can put my laptop into. It can be on top of our small kitchen side table when I am doing the cooking or meal preparation.
Sometimes, especially during the afternoon, my office table is right on the corner on top of the wooden cash holder. This is when all of my hours are spent overseeing our small “sari-sari” store. It may not be as cozy like the others or as artistic like with those working inside their airconditioned room. But, this is where I become more productive, performing my tasks of being a freelance writer and a small time enterpreneur.
There are also times when I need to work at night especially when deadlines are on due. In this case, my working nook is simply on my lap, sitting beneath my sweet little Shih Tzu.
But, regardless of where I work from, every space provides a great realization. They tell me the different sides of my story—a glimpse of me being a mom, a freelance writer, and a small business owner. Yes, my working tables are not Instagram-worthy or Pinterest-perfect, but it’s where I found functionality, productivity and, of course, love and dedication.
This is just a simple reminder that success doesn’t depend on fancy desks or quiet hours. Sometimes, you may find it on simple things like sipping coffee while my laptop is starting up, typing between chores and store supervision, or finishing a task beside my fur baby. And that is more than enough for me.
And, yes, my not so ordinary office table may change from time-to-time. But, one thing is for sure, it always keeps me holding on to my passion and my purpose.

I think it is cool how you can balance many different life responsibilities, and are able to work where ever there is space. This is a superpower many do not possess. I know it can be difficult for me to focus when there is too much else going on around me. Your Shih Tzu looks cute, my aunt used to have one, and he was a very smart and personable dog.
